Years ago Trump made the statement that he felt things would be “Easier, if he was an Educated Black.”
Trump: A well-educated Black has a tremendous advantage over a well-educated White in terms of the job market. And I think that sometimes a Black may think that they don’t really have the advantage or this or that, but in actuality, today, currently, it’s a great — I’ve said that on occasion even about myself, if I was starting out today I would love to be a well-educated Black because I really do believe they do have an actual advantage., today.
In 1989, Trump said that if he could, he would change himself into an “Educated Black” because he thought that they had a life on “Easy Street.”
He’s felt this way for decades. He thinks being Black is an “advantage” for people. How exactly is that supposed to work? Is he saying that there is pro-black racism in effect that gives them an advantage? Where is there evidence of that? How is that possibly true?
I’ve been Black my entire life and I’ve also been reasonably educated — I was declared a “Gifted Child” when I was 12 — and yeah, I did get some unique opportunities as part of the Gifted Child program in L.A during the late 70’s. I would say being bright and articulate has helped me get jobs, that speaking the King’s English properly without a Blaccent has helped me deal with unruly police. I was once able to talk down an officer who had pulled his gun on me, simply by talking to him calmly.
I know that I joined a consulting firm in Sacramento at least partially because I was Black — although being SMART came first. It wasn’t either/or — it was both.
So I can’t say it hasn’t helped some, but not that much. Not really.
I really can’t see this world he speaks of where Educated Black people have some massive advantage. Are they able to defy the stereotype of being a “Dumb N*gger” — well, yeah I guess. Does that break a racial narrative? Maybe.
But then there are a lot of other racial tropes that they would still have to skirt. Being lazy. Criminal. Whiney. Chip Shouldered. Entitled. Angry. Bitter. Resentful. On Edge. Paranoid. Violent.
Being smart doesn’t solve every problem.
But this is the position that Trump starts from, this is his basis. So when Trump says that Kamala Harris just recently, suddenly “Became Black” he’s saying that she just decided to deliberately make use of this advantage for her own advancement.
So that’s how we get to this shit.
She was of Indian descent until she decided to Play the Race Card and deal from the bottom of the deck to get ahead.
Yeah, she wasn’t Black when she attended an HBCU. She wasn’t Black when she led the debate team for the Alpha Kappa Alpha (Black) Sorority. She wasn’t Black when she participated in Anti-Aparthied Protests. She wasn't black when she went to Law School and was President of the Black Law Students Association.
We know she went on to become the first African-American/South Asian Female to become District Atrorney for San Francisco, California Attorney General, US Senator for California and eventually Vice President.
I keep asking, if an “Educated Black” has so many advantages — how come she was the First Educated Black Woman in each and every one of those positions? Why hasn’t there already been a litany of Educated Black who are DAs, Attorney Generals, Secretaries of State, Governors and Senators? How come there’s only three Black Senators — Laphonza Buter, Tim Scott and Raphael Warnock — right now? With 13 percent of the population shouldn’t there be at least 12-13 of them? If we have such an “Advantage” shouldn’t there be 20! Or 25?
Where are the rest?
is that proof of an “advantage?”
Why weren’t we having the FIRST in all these areas 50 years ago? A Century Ago? Slavery “ended” 150 years ago right? What’s been happening since then?
How come we’ve never — ever — had a Black Vice President before? And only ONE — Black President?
If he thinks minorities get an advantage — why doesn’t he think being a second-generation Indian-American is an advantage too? What is it specifically about being BLACK — African-American — that makes the difference?
It has to do with why the GOP has been repeatedly saying that she’s a “DEI Hire” as if that was a bad thing. They think that hiring someone Black is just checking off a box on your Racial Guilt.
For Centuries, White people in this nation have brutalized, exploited, dehumanized and discriminated against African-Americans. Deliberately. Systematically. They used them for Slave labor. They denied them the right to speak their own language, and the right to read, the right to vote, the right to raise their own families. They denied them jobs and homes, forced them to live in disinvested ghettos, targeted them for criminal prosecution forcing them back into Debt Peonage and Convict Leasing. They committed terrorism and murder against them with the Lynchings of the KKK, the Mass Murders and massacres of Tulsa Oklahoma, the Birmingham Bombings, the Dogs of Bull Connor and the neglect of the Tuskegee Experiment. $Billions in Generational Wealth has been ripped directly out of the lives of Black people by this nation, their self-worth and self-identity has been stolen from them again and again — and frankly it has hardly even slowed down — it still continues today.
They think — Trump thinks — that America has atoned for all that. Somehow. Somewhere. Yeah, because now when someone fucks with you for racial (or gender, or religious, or LGBTQ) reasons — you can file a lawsuit over it. Yay. Wow. Thanks. That's a help. That’s got all the bigots just running for the hills. They’re scared spitless. Sure, they are.
He thinks America has PAID US BACK for all those horrors by granting us DEI Jobs.
Fucking really, man?
As if.
You think Oprah got where she is because people felt sorry for her? That Jordan and Kobe became champions because they needed a hand-out? You think Barry Gordy built Motown on the backs of White Guilt? You think Jay Z became a mogul because people just really needed to share their pocket change with a struggling brotha? Ya think people like Serena and Venus Williams or Simone Biles have gotten to the top of the sports world because of Welfare?
And how come — with all these successful black athletes over so many decades — we don’t have hardly any black coaches? We don’t have hardly any black team owners. We don't have anyone working in the back office? Why is it so fucking hard to find a Good Black Quarterback? Why is that? I mean, you can’t say they “don’t have experience!”
Think about how much experience SHAQ has?
Could it be because the people already there refuse to give up their power?
Any Black person in this nation who succeeds and excels only did so because White people LET THEM because they felt guilty and sorry for them? Is that the deal here?
You don’t think its possible they succeeded — sure with some help — but also in spite of all the people not-that-secretly raging against them?
There’s a reason Public Enemy put out an album called “It takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back.”
You don’t think they succeeded despite the odds against them, despite the forces arrayed against them? You think it was easy for Jackie Robinson? You think it was easy for Hank Aaron? You think it was easy for Reggie Jackson? Fuck, no.
And there was this:
Trump made his statement about “Educated Blacks having an Advantage” in 1989. Reggie Jackson retired from Baseball in 1987.
Do You think he thinks he had an “Advantage?”
This nation is more segregated now than it was in the 1960s. This nation’s public school system in urban settings is more dilapidated now than it ever was before. Generations of black people have been artificially corralled into polluted urban job deserts.
And we’re supposed to be fucking “Grateful?”
Many millions of Black people have survived and exceeded against the odds. If anything, that has been our defining feature. We did it starting with Cripus Attacks in the Revolutionary War. We did it during the Civil War. We did it in the 1800’s as Buffalo Soldiers. We did again in WWII as Tuskegee Airmen. We did it when we invented Rock n Roll. And Blues. And Boogie-Woogie. And Ragtime. And Jazz, And Gospel. And R&B. And Funk. And Hip Hop. We do it with Fashion. We do it with Culture. We do it with Language.
We keep doing it. In spite of Segregation. In spite of Jim Crow. In spite of Voter Suppression. In spite of Racial Gerrymanderring. in spite of the biased Injustice System.
Vice President Kamala Harris did not suddenly “Become Black.” She’s always been Black, she’s always been Indian, she’s always been American
During her whole life. She knows what that means — and Trump, truly, doesn’t.
