Kos put up a poll today for us to vote on who we think VP Harris will select for her running mate. The last poll choice is “dark horse” which, last time I looked, only got 2% of the vote. I didn’t vote for the dark horse — I voted for who I thought Harris might pick (which is not the same as who I would like to see chosen!).
Anyway, someone in the comments wrote:

Think how exciting that would be — provided of course that the Dark Horse is as good a pick as the currently known contenders, obviously.
But think what a jolt of excitement such a surprise might provide to the campaign!
We are on such a roll of good vibes and positive energy, I feel as if anything is possible right now. Anything.
I feel as if the Democrats could actually win some states that are thought to be so solidly red that nobody is even imagining such a thing — yet.
But what if we had a Dark Horse VP pick that surprises everyone so much that all conventional wisdom goes out the window?
