The much hyped interview of Donald Trump on X by Elon Musk started very late, supposedly due to a cyber attack by folks who wanted to sabotage the event. There may have been other reasons for the delay, but for now that is the official story.
Once it started the mutual love fest went exactly as I had predicted — Elon Musk fawned embarrassingly over his hero with Trump absolutely loving the attention. Musk described his idol as a great hero and Trump basked in the glory he expects as the Chosen One protected from harm by an almighty God.
“It’s a miracle!” he said, referring to his survival of an assassination attempt in Butler County, Pennsylvania. He claimed that his faith in the existence of a Creator is now stronger than ever.
My opinion:
We really don’t need any more billionaires running for office or buying up media. They should just retire early, enjoy their money and leave us alone!
But meanwhile, Musk made a statement that floored me. He stated that nuclear energy is not really dangerous because Nagasaki and Hiroshima are now livable cities despite their obliteration by US atom bombs!
Wow, I didn’t see that coming.
Musk is well-known for making edgy comments and for his caustic characterizations of opponents, but making light of the deaths of so many people (civilians) is just too much!
According to the City of Hiroshima website:
Estimates place the number of dead by the end of December 1945, when the acute effects of radiation poisoning had largely subsided, at roughly 140,000.
US Department of Energy:
As with the estimates of deaths at Hiroshima, it will never be known for certain how many people died as a result of the atomic attack on Nagasaki. The best estimate is 40,000 people died initially, with 60,000 more injured. By January 1946, the number of deaths probably approached 70,000, with perhaps ultimately twice that number dead total within five years.
Our modern version of William Randolph Hearst is Elon Musk — a man who knows no limits when it comes to lack of discretion or self-reflection. He has become the king of right-wing propaganda and knee jerk reactions.
His endorsement of Donald Trump for US President was no surprise to anyone who has seen this self-described left-leaning “liberal” (?) marching to the sound of fascist footsteps disguised as patriotism.
He’s become a verbal bully and a first class idiot!
Musk’s statement abut the inevitability of a civil war in the UK was completely irresponsible. So is his statement about nuclear energy.
Anyone who thinks it’s OK that 280,000 Japanese citizens were killed is simply off his rocker, and yes, totally irresponsible!
Arguing that nuclear plants are safe by citing Nagasaki and Hiroshima?
That’s insane logic...
He also talked about the release of radiation at Fukushima as if it were just another minor inconvenience, like having a bad hair day or scheduling an appointment with a dentist.
Musk is a self-centered billionaire mogul who is out of touch with reality and much like his idol Donald Trump, he takes himself way too seriously while everyone else is laughing. He may be able to attract millions to a platform where he can control the agenda, but it’s just another stage for fools whose grasp on reality is quite tenuous.
I listened to Elon Musk's interview with Trump and was astounded when Musk stated that he was a "liberal” leaning to the left who is at least somewhat concerned about CO2 emissions.
It makes no sense, of course. At the same time he is spouting right-wing pablum and endorsing a neo-fascist for President. The cognitive dissonance here is overwhelming.
We must be very careful not to suggest that someone should be arrested just because you disagree with them, but Elon Musk regularly makes statements that are either ludicrous or even potentially dangerous because of the huge influence he has on so may folks who follow him at X.
He must be held accountable for his arrogant, inane rantings just as we must hold Trump accountable for his false propaganda.
Democracy requires accountability!
