I think Republicans are in big trouble in this swing state…
Haven’t see this as DK yet, but the two Republican-fueled referenda on the Wisconsin ballot yesterday went down!!! The immediate result is that the Republican-led legislature won’t be able to divert the power to spend federal funds from Gov. Evers to...themselves. Wow!!!!
On most ballots around the state, there were no contested Democratic primaries. There was one in the 3rd Congressional District in Southwestern Wisconsin, but the only reason driving most Dems to the polls yesterday were these referenda. I was sure they would pass, but they didn’t!
Kudos to Ben Wikler at the Wisconsin Dems and Matt Mareno et al at the Waukesha Dems (I’m in Waukesha County, but I’m sure other county parties did their part) for getting Dems out to vote yesterday. They were incredibly organized on this. I haven’t dug into the minutia of the data yet, but there is a bigger story here…
Dems turned out in big numbers to vote down two budget-based referenda. Not abortion. Not health care. Not education. Not climate. But budget control.
And if Dems turned out enough votes to defeat these two referenda yesterday, Donald Trump is in big trouble.
One could also argue that the energy created by the Harris-Walz campaign motivated Dems to go to the polls yesterday for no other reason than to defeat these referenda.
Either way, this is a really bad sign for Wisconsin Republicans. They are being out-spent and out-organized in Wisconsin. And Dems are winning as a result.
P.S. As I get older, my posts are shorter and include less data because: 1) I know other people on DK know way more data than I do; and 2) I don’t as much energy to dig through the data as I once did. So, my posts are generally “FYI” types of posts. I’m sure (I’m hoping that) Ben Wikler will post on this.
