ENDORSEMENT ALERT! Great Democrats are running in all eight of Wisconsin’s Congressional districts—and we aim to flip some seats, and flip the House.
With this week’s primary behind us, meet our stellar candidates… and get ready to work for them!
Prelude: as a donor to WisDems, your contribution is vital to providing support to Democrats up and down the ballot, and spreading the word on who’s looking out for the best interests of Wisconsinites. Chip in here.
First up—Wisconsin’s First Congressional District.
Peter Barca is a local legend. He served as the Congressman from this district from 1993-95, long before Paul Ryan and his successor Bryan Steil. Now, he's going to flip it back to blue.
Wisconsin’s 1st is already on the DCCC’s red-to-blue list of priority districts. Barca, who also served as Dem leader in the state Assembly and Gov Evers’s Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, is the kind of seasoned leader who can flip this critical seat.
Peter Barca is one of the kindest, most ebullient, most all-about-Wisconsin human beings you’ll ever meet. And he’s ready to fight for the working people of our state—against an anti-abortion extremist. Help Peter Barca defeat the GOP's Bryan Steil.
Over in Wisconsin’s 2nd—my home!—you’ve got the great Mark Pocan.
He has represented south-central Wisconsin for 12 years, following 14 years in the State Assembly. Pocan chairs the Equality Caucus, co-chairs the Labor Caucus, and is Chair Emeritus of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
Mark Pocan not only represents the 2nd CD, but he also takes on special interests and advances the progressive cause nationwide. He’s spending a ton of time and resources this year working to flip his neighboring Congressional districts. Help him out!
In Wisconsin’s 3rd, we now have our nominee: future Congresswoman Rebecca Cooke.
Rebecca grew up on an Eau Claire dairy farm and fights fiercely for working people, for healthcare, public education, and reproductive freedom. Read more about her here.
Cooke will take on the terrible Derrick Van Orden, whose temper tantrums have been an embarrassment to the 3rd, while he ignores responsibilities like funding the government or passing the Farm Bill. Let’s help Rebecca make Van Orden a one-term wonder.
Woe to anyone challenging Gwen Moore of Wisconsin’s 4th CD.
She’s represented the 4th since 2005, and it’s easy to see why Wisconsin loves her. Take her perfect response after Donald Trump had the audacity to call our beloved Milwaukee “horrible”:
Congresswoman Moore is one of the most powerful and accomplished members of Congress. She’s a member of the House and Ways Committee, specifically the Tax Subcommittee and Oversight Subcommittee, and she oversees the Work and Welfare Subcommittee.
She also serves as the Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth and is an active member of the LGBT Equality Caucus, Congressional Black Caucus, the Great Lakes Caucus, the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, and the Democratic Women’s Caucus.
Gwen Moore has been a Wisconsin icon for decades, and she’s been leading the way, sounding the alarm, and making change every step of the way. Help her keep up the fight.
Wisconsin’s 5th CD includes Waukesha and Washington counties—the W and W in the “WOW” counties (Ozaukee is part of the 6th).
It’s the heart of GOP Wisconsin—but also the part of the state with the biggest swing to Dem in recent years.
Democrat Ben Steinhoff, a paramedic for 12 years, knows compassion and how to act with urgency. And he vows to put people over profit. He’s fighting for decency in the 5th in a way that will help Democrats up and down the ticket. Get involved.
This year is the perfect time to send GOP incumbent Scott Fitzgerald packing. He was integral to the fake elector plot to overturn the 2020 election, even reserving the room in the Capitol where they met. Help Ben hold him accountable.
In Wisconsin’s 6th District, Democrat John Zarbano from Oshkosh vows to protect women’s reproductive rights, support stronger labor unions, and strengthen Medicare and Social Security.
He values education and kindness. Plug in.
Meanwhile, GOP incumbent Glenn Grothman of the 6th cosponsored a resolution to ban same-sex marriage, argued against recognizing Kwanzaa and MLK Jr. Day as holidays, and voted against aid to Ukraine. And so, so much more. He shouldn’t be in Congress.
Glenn Grothman makes Wisconsinites cringe every time he appears on C-SPAN. Let’s vote John Zarbono and his kindness into Wisconsin CD6. Donate to help him out.
The 7th Congressional District is massive—a 26-county, largely rural district that encompasses Northern Wisconsin.
And we’ve got a nominee whose heart and work ethic are as big as the district he seeks to represent: Kyle Kilbourn.
Kyle grew up in a small town, with parents—like so many Wisconsinites—juggling multiple jobs to keep the family afloat. He’s working to ensure that families like his can give their kids the opportunities that he received. Chip in to help Kyle.
When you help Kyle Kilbourn, you’re also fueling a response to his incumbent opponent, “Toxic Tom” Tiffany. In the state legislature, Tiffany continually antagonized the Department of Natural Resources. His anti-environmental record has only grown worse in Congress.
Since Mike Gallagher stepped down in Wisconsin’s 8th CD, the district is wide open.
Dr. Kristin Lyerly is ready to step up to represent Northeast Wisconsin.
An OB/GYN and business owner, Dr. Lyerly is already making the freedom to access abortion a central issue.
Driven to run for office by the end of Roe v. Wade, Dr. Lyerly would be, if elected, the first pro-abortion OB/GYN in Congress. And with women’s reproductive rights constantly threatened by the GOP, this is the time to flip the 8th to blue. Chip in here.
Dr. Lyerly’s opponent, Tony Wied, triumphed in a bitter 3-way Republican primary yesterday for one reason only: he had the endorsement of Donald J. Trump. He’d take Wisconsin’s MAGA GOP delegation and MAGA-fy it even further. Let’s make sure she wins—and he loses.
The Democratic Congressional field is dynamite.
And you can boost these terrific candidates by donating to WisDems, where your dollars go toward spreading the word about Wisconsin’s coming blue wave. Chip in here.
