Greatest GOP VP nominee of all time?
Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, is drawing renewed scrutiny over his past remarks that the American gymnast Simone Biles, who won another Olympic all-around gold medal on Thursday, showed weakness when she withdrew from the previous Games because of a mental health issue.
Vance, during an appearance on Fox News in 2021, questioned why Biles was receiving acclaim for stepping away from the competition at the Tokyo games.
“I think it reflects pretty poorly on our sort of therapeutic society that we try to praise people, not for moments of strength, not for moments of heroism, but for their weakest moments,” Vance, who was running for the Senate, said at the time.
Apparently, Vance doesn't recognize the heroism of Biles coming forward about her mental health struggles, setting an example that it's okay to have mental health issues, that there's nothing wrong with needing help, and that it's possible to face such difficulties head on as part of the healing process. And this year, Biles is proving and setting an example that by facing mental health issues head on, by seeking and getting help for them, people can keep moving forward in their lives and flourish.
And speaking of heroism, all of 4'8" tall, Biles also metaphorically kicked Trump’s ass:
She posted on X early on Friday: “I love my black job” with a black heart emoji alongside, responding to another post of her beaming with her latest Olympic gold medal.
“Simone Biles being the GOAT, winning Gold medals and dominating gymnastics is her black job,” posted the singer Ricky Davila.
The messages were an unmistakable takedown of the former president, who is once again the Republican party’s nominee for president.
