A University of Houston Hobby School and Texas Southern University Jordan-Leland School poll released Thursday found that 46.6% of likely Texas voters plan to vote for Cruz, while 44.5% said they’d vote for Allred — putting Cruz 2.1 points ahead. Of those polled, 2.5% said they were voting for Libertarian Ted Brown and 6.4% said they’re undecided.
Cruz defeated Beto O’Rourke by 2.4% in 2018. In 2020 Biden lost to Trump in Texas by 5.6%, but in 2016, Hillary Clinton lost in Texas by 9%. Around 2 million people have moved to the state over the last four years, from all around the world.
Considering how hysterical overhyped the border situation has been over the last year, a 5% lead for Trump is not that impressive. NBC reports Gov. Greg Abbott has stopped sending buses of migrants out of state.
Republicans may have to spend big money in Texas to save Cruz and prevent Trump from being dumped in the Lone Star State.
Both Harris and Allred will need a higher percentage of Hispanic voters to win. Their support among African Americans has some room to grow.

93% of both Cruz and Allred voters indicate they are certain about their vote choice, with only 7% saying they might change their mind between now and November.
Allred holds a seven percentage point lead over Cruz among women (49% to 42%) while Cruz holds a 13 percentage point lead over Allred among men (52% to 39%).
57% of white Texans intend to vote for Cruz compared to 40% who intend to vote for Allred.
46% of Latino Texans intend to vote for Allred while 40% intend to vote for Cruz.
72% of Black Texans intend to vote for Allred while 20% intend to support Cruz
The survey was taken of 1,365 likely voters August 5-16 and has margin of error of 2.65%.
