I made it to Nashville in one piece yesterday after a 13hr drive. We stopped five times for either gas or bathroom breaks. Our longest stop was at Buc-ees about 90 minutes from Nashville.
After registering for the convention, we went to the hospitality room to begin our annual jigsaw puzzle. My mom spent the evening talking with some of the attendees from the Panthers booster club. I had known there is another event being held at the hotel this week but was not sure what. My mom found out yesterday it is the TN county sheriff's conference. Ugh.
Tomorrow, Gov Bill Lee will be at the hotel prompting an increased security presence. I guess unlike elementary school kids, they don't want him to the be the victim of a crazed gun man. I had brought a March for Our Lives t-shirt to wear to the meet up on Saturday but instead will wear it tomorrow to protest his presence. I doubt I will pass him, but I am sure a few of the cops around will have to see my shirt.
It's not much, but it will feel good to support the Tennessee Three and gun violence victims in some small way.
Went to The Hermitage today (main picture and the one below are from the gift shop). I was glad to see they have a number of books on the slave experience and their voices along with quite a few geared towards Native American history and the Trail of Tears. Also had writings from noted abolitionist, Thomas Paine for sale and prominently displayed. They also had a tour geared toward the slave history of the home available but it wasn't available today. Good to see another Presidential home not shy away from the history both good and bad of its owner.
