Donald Trump will be campaigning in Montana tonight (in, bafflingly, his only campaign stop of this incredibly crucial week): A week where Trump’s opponents Vice President Kamala Harris and her new running mate, Tim Walz, have zoomed into a small lead in the race for the US Presidency!
So why is Trump taking a flight all the way to Montana (a state he is sure to win this Fall)?
Trump is going to Montana because he desires revenge on Democratic US Senator Jon Tester so much that he is willing to get off the golf course and out of Mar-a-Lago and fly all the way to Montana...and that is a lot of dislike!
So, by definition, if Trump hates Tester that much, that means there are some things about Jon Tester that the rest of us can probably deeply admire.
So, Jon, in his 18 years in the Senate has done a huge amount of good for a lot of people (veterans, Native Americans, farmers, teachers, children, women, the elderly), so much so that the non-partisan U Virginia Center for Effective Lawmaking ranked Jon Tester the 4th Most Effective Senator in the 2021-23 US Senate and the 2nd Most Effective Democrat:
JON TESTER’S SENATE RESULTS:
”In the Senate, Jon is a tireless defender of rural America and the Montana way of life. He is the Treasure State’s strongest advocate for our family farmers and ranchers, veterans, small business owners, sportsmen and women, and Tribal Nations. Whether it’s creating jobs, combating agriculture consolidation, championing responsible energy development, improving schools, or expanding high-quality health care, Jon is always fighting to bring down costs, grow our economy, and improve the lives of all Montanans.”
So, again, why is Trump so mad at Jon Tester?
Jon Tester is the Chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee and in 2018, he committed an unthinkable “offense” against then-President Donald Trump by shooting down Trump’s attempt to get his personal physician, Ronny Jackson, appointed as head of the Veterans’ Administration. (Ronny Jackson as Secretary of the Veteran’s Administration? What could have gone wrong with having the VA headed by a former White House physician who was demoted by the Navy, in retirement, from Admiral to Captain, for his pill overprescribing behavior while Chief White House Physician?)
Then Jon Tester committed what Trump must consider an even bigger offense--by getting re-elected in 2018 by 50.3% to 46.7% after Trump came to Montana FOUR times in 2018 while attempting to prevent Tester’s re-election.
It’s almost as if Trump’s attention helped Tester get re-elected…
At the time Tester said of Trump,” “Presidents [including Trump] come to the state and campaign for whoever they want to campaign for. I’ve run all my campaigns myself against my opponent. We don't bring in a lot of extra people truthfully. We don't because it’s more about the candidates than it is about the folks who come in from out of state.” Sorta’ like Trump didn’t much matter in Montana….
So here’s a time for a fun twofer:
Let’s help Jon Tester’s 2024 Senate re-election fundraising have a great day.
In doing so we win two ways:
1) Montana Senator Jon Tester gets a big boost when he really needs it: (Tester’s opponent Tim Sheehy has been receiving huge national bucks to try and remove Tester from the Senate seat Jon has filled so admirably for almost 18 years.)
2) We get to let Donald Trump know what we think of his unending attempts to wreak revenge on anyone who dares to oppose him.
Here’s the link to throw some dollars toward Jon--and both support Jon’s reelection and let Trump know what we think of his revenge tour:
