To no one’s surprise, after Trump continues to deny Climate change, his Chicago namesake, Trump Tower — an eyesore to the spectacular Chicago skyline -- is killing fish in violation of state and federal guidelines created to protect the Chicago River. Cook County Judge Thaddeus L. Wilson ruled against the Trump corporation on September 8, declaring Trump Tower a public nuisance.
Trump Tower sits aside the river.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times:
The building at 401 N. Wabash Ave. operates without a proper state environmental permit, does not accurately report water discharge levels and violates at least three other laws, according to the lawsuit. Wilson said those facts were “well founded” and “not materially challenged.”
Those facts are that the Trump Tower “has created and continues to create a a public nuisance in violation of Illinois law,” and the intake system operates “in a manner that substantially and unreasonably interferes with the public right to fish and otherwise recreate in the Chicago River,” Wilson said in an order dated Monday.
Trump opened his eponymous skyscraper hotel and condo tower in 2009. It has the Trump name garishly displayed in oversize letters on the river side where the illegal killing of fish is occurring.
The Sun-Times noted that no one from the Chicago Trump Tower would comment on the ruling.
According to the Chicago Tribune:
“The Chicago River is one of our city’s most treasured natural resources, providing opportunities for recreation and commerce,” [Illinois] Attorney General Kwame Raoul said in a statement. “For years, Trump Tower failed to follow state and federal regulations that protect the health of the Chicago River and the balance of critical aquatic ecosystems therein. All entities — no matter who they are — must be held accountable when they willfully disregard our laws. I am pleased with this decision, and I am committed to continuing to vigorously enforce our environmental laws.”
The Tribune notes that according to a New York Times report, if Trump wins in November, he would be better positioned to dismantle environmental and climate regulations with sympathetic judges and conservative allies.
The building’s cooling water intake system illegally sucks in and chops up the fish.
The building also illegally discharges water back into the river that is 35 degrees warmer.
The man is a danger to all living things.
