Good morning! Today is the fourteenth Monday that Donald Trump has been a convicted felon.
And it’s now just 16 days until his sentencing! Two weeks and change!
We’re taking a badly day off today, and we’re willing to say it’s on account of our respect for the resurgent U.S. labor movement.
Ordinarily, of course, I’d bring you back in time by a year, and share with you the September 2, 2023 episode. But guess what? Well, first of all, September 2, 2023 was a Saturday, so there was no show. Not only that, but the next Monday was Labor Day, so… we took the day off on account of our respect for the resurgent U.S. labor movement.
And what did we play instead? The September 2, 2022 episode.
Now, in most such cases, I’d hesitate to play the September 2, 2022 episode again, since there’s such a large body of work to choose from. But for one thing, I’d already sent the file to Justice before I realized I’d played the September 2, 2022 episode on September 4, 2023.
For another, when I took a look at what we’d covered on September 2, 2022, I found reason to stick with the choice, even though I’d used it before. September 2, 2022 was the day we covered Joe Biden’s “Soul of the Nation” speech, given in Philadelphia, and aimed squarely at the danger of losing our democracy to… the people we’re currently in danger of losing democracy to.
Joe Biden is no longer the Democratic nominee for president, but he saw the nature of this election as clearly as anyone.
I won’t go so far just yet as to say that this episode should become our standing Labor Day tradition. But you could do worse.
