Since it’s crunch time for the election, we are hearing more and more about the “undecided” voters that are out there. They’re supposed to decide the election so the political media is really interested in them….and they think you should be too!
Why are they still undecided? What issues are important to them? Why are they struggling to make a choice?
Ok, ok….the media has a great need for there to be undecided voters. Because that justifies all their coverage of the presidential race (as opposed to other races)- nothing is settled! The remaining undecideds haven’t made up their mind! Which way will they go? We need to cover this every day!
Also, undecideds justify last minute ad buys that profit broadcast outlets. So there’s that.
I’m here to tell you that there are no “undecideds” out there.
What….didn’t I see this or that video of a bunch of voters saying that they weren’t sure and still had to make up their mind? Didn’t see this piece in the Times about their panel of undecided voters?
Yeah, I’ve seen all of it.
They’re not “undecided.”
Because, if they’re telling you that they are “undecided” that means…
...that they did decide that Trump being impeached twice didn’t disqualify him.
...that they did decide that Trump’s handling of COVID, including lying about how serious and deadly it is, and manipulating health care supplies based on whether an area or a representative supported him, didn’t disqualify him.
...that they decided helping lead an insurrection to overturn an election, all based on lies, does not disqualify him.
...that they decided being charged in four federal trials did not disqualify him.
...that they decided being found guilty of sexual assault, and defaming his victim, does not disqualify him.
...that they decided being found guilty of 34 criminal counts does not disqualify him.
...that they decided making up complete lies about Haitian immigrants over and over again does not disqualify him.
...that they decided his obvious mental decline does not disqualify him.
That’s a lot to put aside and keep him viable, right? I’m struggling to think what he would have to do lose these votes.
All the people that are claiming to be “undecided” are effectively saying that they still might vote for Trump given all that and more. Just one of the points I listed makes Trump unacceptable in the eyes of any sane, informed person that really cares about this country and takes voting seriously.
The person who is aware of everything that I listed but is still “Gee, I don’t know….” already knows enough for a decision.
They have decided that none of those things should keep Trump from getting their vote. Why they don’t changes from person to person, of course. But we can already make some presumptions.
This sort of person is granting Trump a 100 miles of slack. Impeached? Ok. Led an insurrection and lied about losing an election? It happens. Found guilty of 34 counts? Who knows?
At the same time….why haven’t they decided on Kamala Harris? I mean, she hasn’t been impeached, or lied about losing an election, or been indicted by the federal courts, or been found guilty of any felons? Not to mention no affairs with porn stars, or robbing charities, or bankruptcies, or Hollywood Access tape.
(There is always the claim that these people need “to know more.” And there is mea cupla that they don’t know all that about Trump. If they don’t know at least one of those points against Trump they shouldn’t be voting, but no one dares say that)
But wait BTL, you say, isn’t the election going to be won by convincing these undecided voters?
Normally, yes. And with a few of these people, maybe. If anyone has a couple of hours and the patience to pull these people to our side, well, you’re doing the Lord’s work.
But why all the uncertainty between these two? Regardless of the race and gender of these undecideds, they certainly have defaulted to having old white guys in charge of stuff while being uncertain about a more qualified non-white woman. Draw your own conclusions.
Whatever the specifics are, these voters are looking at Trump’s horrific record and Harris’ relatively spotless one and deciding that they are equals. And that says that they have already decided far too much to really be “undecided.”
