Schrodinger’s Cat named Democracy:
Quantum Superposition of Nov. 5th
The poor cat of the thought experiment often questioned as either dead or alive or being both dead and alive. Quantum superposition describes the interaction of multiple states. The Copenhagen theory that observation identifies a state, and the others disappear. (MAGA likes the Danes, the good immigrant types like Norwegians. They gave us Little Mermaid, the white Ariel, not the Black Ariel. MAGA knows its mermaids and Santa Clauses.)
There are many more qualified to try to understand and explain quantum states than I am. I wanted to apply some of the concepts to our obsession with reporting of the horserace polls. The polling parameters exist in a cloud of margin of error; a cloud producing a thick blanket of fog. We are down to the last month of nonsense. As the volume turns up the noise gets louder. POTUS polls predicting the coming election are ubiquitous. The election in a month will be a single state, but it is a future state with dynamic forces shaping it. Currently all the different states exist, predicting the future does not determine it. A poll predicting the future does choose a state and it is fixed for that poll. Hence headlines Trump now winning Pennsylvania, when the election is still in superposition of all states still existing. The observation or the poll kills our cat named Democracy.
Poll results are reported in headlines, often headlines are misleading. What is not as well reported is the sample size. How was this sample selected? What model projecting turnout was used? How consistent has this pollster been? (Please spare me the atrocious average of polls. I will select my November 5th coat based on observation, not the average temperature of all U.S. cities or favorability of temperatures in all U.S. cities.) Every poll is true for the time and people asked in that poll nothing more. Also, report the wording of the questions asked. Polls often are not measuring what they purport.
The superposition of Nov 5th has many unforeseen elements and events that will occur. (If the Democrats can create more hurricanes and possibly other natural disasters in Trump districts. Best voter suppression in the world a few strategically placed tornadoes.) In the state of it’s out there, but not presently here. James Comey could raise his ugly head. Rudy Giuliani and John Eastman are not in jail, as they should be. Who knows how many white knights in chainmail are ready to pledge to the cause of the Trumplars? At this moment the future state of all possible states exists. Why pay attention to polls? A job best left to professionals, not the pundits on the media. Let the media pundits kill Schrodinger’s cat named democracy. They refuse to explain tariffs or detail Trump’s lies. The race must stay close, a true horse race.

You and I are not in superposition. We live somewhere. Are you registered? Do you still live in the precinct? Can you vote early? Can you vote by mail? (I will) Do you know the location where your precinct votes? Do you have a colonoscopy scheduled for Nov. 5th? Check your calendar, then vote early. it is up to you to save the cat named democracy.

MAGA media and pundits cannot get colonoscopies. There is no room to get past their heads.
Also Senate, House, and state races are vital votes for Democrats. I cannot think of any Republican running for House or Senate who deserves my vote. The more Gen Z who vote the more old white men are put out to pasture. Better than being taken out and shot as in an authoritarian country. Votes for Democrats preserve democracy. Votes for MAGA kill cats named democracy, and the cat ladies, too.
