There are so many utterly terrible Republican candidates that it’s hard to pick out the worst one sometimes, but in my mind a STRONG contender for the title of Most Horrible MAGA Asshole is North Carolina’s Lt. Governor, the vile Mark Robinson. I have searched in vain for a single positive thing about him. The always-valuable Talking Points Memo was warning us about him in 2023:
Robinson has also expressed support for the rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol in the January 6 attack, whom he dubbed “political prisoners.” He has shared posts suggesting shadowy “Satanic” and “occult” forces are plaguing society, along with multiple conspiracy theories about the “New World Order.” In many of his posts, Robinson made clear that he enjoyed offending those who disagreed with his extreme views.
“Note to liberals; I’ll accept ‘Gay Pride’ when you accept ‘White Pride,’” Robinson wrote in a 2014 post.
Since taking office in 2021, Robinson has made headlines with his prolific Facebook output, including last year when he shared baseless conspiracy theories about the attack on former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband. In 2021, Robinson sparked outrage from Jewish groups when he published a post filled with Yiddish slurs and references to Israeli currency wherein he declared the “Black Panther” superhero movie was based on a character that was created “by an agnostic Jew and put to film by satanic marxist” in an effort to “pull the shekels out of your Schvartze pockets.” Those comments that drew attention are not Robinson’s only controversial take on Jewish issues. Over the years, Robinson repeatedly questioned why criticism of Nazis was such a prominent part of political discourse. He argued that Nazism was defeated in World War II while the continued spread of communism was a more pressing problem. In one of these posts, which has not been reported before, Robinson seemed to veer into Holocaust denial.

In Facebook posts, Robinson has repeatedly denied the Holocaust. In one 2018 post, he wrote that “this foolishness about Hitler disarming MILLIONS of Jews and then marching them off to concentration camps is a bunch of hogwash.”
In another post, published in 2017, Robinson wrote that “there is a REASON the liberal media fills the airwaves with programs about the NAZI and the ‘6 million Jews’ they murdered,” placing the number of Jews killed in the Holocaust in scare quotes.
GAYS ARE SATANIC

Lt. Gov Mark Robinson is one of the most virulently anti-LGBTQ+ elected officials in the country. He stoked the flames that allowed the passage of three anti-LGBTQ+ bills in North Carolina in 2023, and the passage of over 80 bills nationwide.
Some of the things he’s said about LGBTQ+ people include:
- Calling us “filth.”
- “God formed” him to fight LGBTQ+ visibility.
- We’re turning this country into a “hellhole.”
- Teachers can’t teach children how to read because “they’re trying to push homosexuality and transgenderism. That ain’t got no place in schools.”
- Trans people should “find a corner outside somewhere” to use the bathroom, and trans women should be “arrested” for using women’s restrooms.

- LGBTQ+ education on different gender identities are “lies from a pit of hell.”

He’s also softened his position. Robinson denies ever supporting abortion bans without exceptions, publicly stating that he has always struggled with the issue and confirming that he once paid for an abortion for his then-girlfriend, now-wife in the 1980s, an experience he says he fully regrets.
But in comments reviewed by CNN’s KFile dating back to 2018, Robinson regularly labeled abortion as “murder” and “genocide,” comparing the anti-abortion movement to the abolitionist movement to end slavery. He also baselessly speculated that the founders of Planned Parenthood were satanists who practiced witchcraft.
Robinson characterized women who undergo abortions, even if they are just “24 hours pregnant,” as murderers.
Robinson’s current position, his office has said, is support for so-called “heartbeat” legislation, which could ban abortion after a “heartbeat” is detected — but with exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother.
