School is in and we, the United States, already have a mass shooting in our schools, dead children and, of course, more useless thoughts and hollow prayers to add to our already world-leading totals. Here is what should happen at the September 10th Presidential Debate.
The opening topic should be gun reform and each candidate should be asked the same questions.
- What do you and your party propose to enact as common sense gun reform during your term, if elected?
- Here is the record of your party in the last 25 years with regard to gun reform. What is your view of your party’s record, including during your tenure in office?
- Are you satisfied with your efforts and your record regarding proposing or supporting gun reform legislation, and why or why not?
- What promises will you make to the schoolchildren and their families regarding your policies, if elected, about enacting meaningful gun reform in your first 100 days?
And if it takes an hour to get a straight answer from either candidate, so be it. Do not move on to another topic until these, and perhaps other, questions are answered fully.
