The pet peeve first: Why is it that when multiple people use a microwave, there’s always a person or multiple people that do not reset the microwave with the stop/clear button so that the current time shows as opposed to the amount of time that was remaining for the dish that was being prepared?
Just press the stop/clear button once. Is that so hard?
I got that out. I’m not OCD or anal about many things but that particular thing just drives me up a wall for some reason.
Now for the work-related dilemma at my offline job.
While I work...let’s say x amount of hours, I’m fully capable of finishing the job in ½ the amount of time and I frequently do.
So my supervisor has requested that we do one additional job-related duty which doesn’t take too long. In fact, I can still finish the job with some— but considerably less— time to spare.
We’re taking over the job from a co-worker who is about to retire in about two years and has slowed down.
I understand why this employee remains on the payroll (we did have some layoffs recently). and he continues to do the work, albeit in a more half-assed way than he used to
One of his main shifts coincides with my regular workshift. So very often when I am about finished with what I have to do, I see this co-worker making the rounds and doing what I have been assigned to do. He may or may not have done it all. Well...he usually doesn’t do everything that needs to be done.
I brought this up with a supervisor. She said to simply do what you can.
Another or my pet peeves is doing double-work. I’m sensitive to some of the issues that may be involved though. I don’t want to step on any toes, though.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
