It's been 73 days since I awoke to see my beloved country bleeding red. Just today, for the first time, I awoke and was not sobbing as soon as I remembered. I see now that there are folks who are taking steps to mitigate the upcoming damage, so in their spirit, I shall do the little that I can do to help.
For about 7 years now, I've been a Volunteer Moderator for a worldwide organization, Freecycle.org. Beginning in England, there are Freecycle.org branches in many areas and if not, it's easy to start one.
Our Mission Statement is to reduce waste, save resources and to ease the burden on local landfills. We're an all volunteer organization and we care about the planet.
Go to www.Freecycle.org and find your location. Join. Now you have a place to list that old keyboard nobody uses anymore, or that baker's rack you no longer need, or that china you replaced or that old beater car that's raggedy and not worth much, but still runs well.
Here's how it works:
Clean out your garage or attic (or whatever) and decide what you no longer need.
Make an Offer post on your local Freecycle.org.
When someone messages you that they need the item, answer with a time they can fetch it
Leave it on your porch
They will come and get it
Hard times are coming for all of us. This is a way you can not only help, but you may also obtain things that you might need, plus it's green!.
In the last 7 years, I've facilitated the exchange of a 7-passenger van, an ABS (plastic) canoe that needed patching, kayak seats, a (small) boat trailer, moving boxes and packing supplies, a number of bicycles, non-prescription medical equipment (crutches, walkers, bedside commodes, etc), clothing, shoes, pet food and kitchen equipment.
We have to help each other now because no help is coming to us from Washington, DC, or the red states in thrall to the absolutely worst person ever to hold a US office.
So, my friends, join your local Freecycle.org and start helping. You'll be pleased by the feeling you get, and you're helping your neighbors, too.
