As I wrote the other day and we all know the perpetrator of the New Year’s New Orleans Truck attack in the French Quarter was an ISIS-affiliated American citizen who was born in Beaumont Texas.
It was not a migrant.
This is not hard to figure out. I can understand getting it wrong once after Fox News wrongly reported that the license plate on the rented truck had been scanned in Eagle Pass Texas near the border crossing. As it turns out, that happened over a month ago on November 19th and still indications are that the ID of the driver was not the attacker.
So exactly in what way does the border and immigration policy have anything to do with this attack?
Who cares who was driving this truck anywhere a month ago?
And yet, people are still trying to defend and repeat this wrong bullshit.
Jim Scuitto and Brian Stetler responded.
"An erroneous early Fox News report about the New Orleans terror attack is warping the political dialogue in the aftermath of the deadly rampage," Stelter wrote. "The false report from Fox, which was attributed to anonymous sources, confused the public – and evidently President-elect Donald Trump too.
After news broke of the New Year's Eve terror attack that killed at least 15 and injured 35, President-elect Donald Trump posted to social media, “When I said that the criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in our country, that statement was constantly refuted by Democrats and the Fake News Media, but it turned out to be true. The crime rate in our country is at a level that nobody has ever seen before."
Stelter wrote, "Ironically, Trump's original statement used the New Orleans attack to say that he was right and the "Fake News Media" was wrong about the threat posed by illegal immigration. If he had waited a couple hours to react, he would have learned that the suspect was a US citizen. A Fox spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment about the misreporting."
Stelter continued, "Overnight, Trump continued to post messages on Truth Social assailing 'open borders.' After a related segment on Fox & Friends Thursday morning, Trump wrote, 'I said, many times during Rallies, and elsewhere, that Radical Islamic Terrorism, and other forms of violent crime, will become so bad in America that it will become hard to even imagine or believe. That time has come, only worse than ever imagined.'
Although the FBI confirmed Thursday that the suspect, Shamsud Din Jabbar, was a U.S. citizen, "Republican lawmakers on Fox have also continued to bring up the southern border during the network’s segments about the New Orleans attack, even though there is no known link," Stelter wrote.
It happened with Jim Acosta.
"We can show it up on screen again, I mean he's talking about, he's blaming Biden's 'open borders policy', and he's talking about that on Truth Social."
Acosta continued, "What he is saying in that Truth Social post is false! That is false!"
Chatterjee pushed back: "He's not saying that this individual crossed the border illegally, but there were 400 people on the terrorist watch list —"
"Of course, but when there's an act of terrorism in this country, the incoming president should tell the truth to the American people. I mean, that is just — isn't that what the president should do at all times?" Acosta asked.
"He's talking about securing the border, and he's been talking for years about securing the border. And I think the data bears out that he won the election, partially because —"
Acosta interjected, "I mean, i just have to say, here he goes again! He talks about everybody else being fake news, and he's the one peddling fake news."
Speaker Mike Johnson has still blamed the attack on the border.
"The congressional Republicans, we here in the House and the Senate, have repeatedly asked the DHS under the Biden administration about the correlation, the obvious concern about terrorism and the wide open border," he continued. "The idea that dangerous people were coming here in droves and setting up potentially terrorist cells around the country."
"This is the thing that we were all concerned about. This is why we raised the alarms."
Johnson argued House Republicans passed a border security bill to prevent attacks like the one in New Orleans.
"The Biden administration has a lot to account for here, and we see now, in glaring view of everybody, that this dereliction of duty has real consequences," he insisted.
The man was from TEXAS, he didn’t “come here” from anywhere else. As I again wrote yesterday, no successful terrorist attack has ever been launched by someone crossing the Southern Border. It hasn’t happened, and there’s no reason to expect that it will happen.
How would such a person get a driver’s license? How would such a person rent a truck? How would they fly a plane? How would they get a gun? How would they get explosives? The resources you would need to mount a terrorist attack are exactly what someone entering the country illegally would. not. have.
Years ago, Al Qaeda shifted from trying to transplant terrorists from country to country to attempting to radicalize followers from afar. This is why Al Qaeda’s own magazine is called “Inspire.”
This crazed irrational fear by MAGAs over Southern Border Terrorism is like a sickness. It’s like a constant reflex, it’s like Tourettes, they can’t help themselves from continuing the throw Blood Libel on immigrants.
Anytime something goes wrong anywhere these guys start shouting robotically: MIGRANT MIGRANT MIGRANT!
They made a mistake, they were wrong but they can’t admit that mistake, they can't accept that they’re wrong so they continue to double-down on this paranoid fearmongering nonsense again and again.
Just like they refuse to admit that the election wasn’t stolen. They can’t admit that the January 6 Insurrection even happened let alone that it was the final step in John Eastman’s 6-step plot to steal the Presidency, and that it wasn’t secretly fostered by Antifa and the FBI. They can’t admit or understand that Texas — not Blue States like California or New York — gets the most electoral advantage from undocumented citizens recorded in the Census. They can’t admit that it’s Trump. who has a history of sexual assault and victimizing children, not Hillary Clinton. They can’t admit charges and cases against Trump are perfectly justified and legitimate. They can’t admit that crime has gone down, they can’t admit that inflation has gone down, they can’t admit that Kamala Harris is a Black woman, they can’t admit anything no how many times they’re proven completely wrong.
Trump still to this day loudly proclaims on Truth Social.
TRUMP WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING.
No, he’s not.
They’re trapped in a hell-world of their own delusions.
Their brains are broken.
Just for the record, as of November 2024, border crossings are at the lowest point in the last 4 years — below 100k per month, after dropping from over 300k per month last December, which is a 66% improvement.
And remember, Trump blocked the bipartisan border bill which would have improved this situation even more, particularly the processing of deportation for the undocumented which right now has a 7-year waiting list. With changes to the immigration judges this could have been reduced to a few weeks, but "Nooo" thanks to Trump we couldn't do that. Biden has made historic improvements here and would have done more if he could, it's been Trump who blocked it.
