In 1948, the U.S. Air Force issued specifications for an all-weather day/night jet interceptor. The F-94 was derived from Lockheed’s T-33 Shooting Star trainer and first flew in 1949 and was adopted in 1950.
The Lockheed F-94C Starfire on display in the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon is on loan from the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.
The Starfire has a cruising speed of 493 mph, a top speed of 640 mph, and a service ceiling of 51,800 feet.
