Welcome to What Are You Working On? where we talk about (and often display) our handiwork, whether yarn and fabric crafts, woodwork, metalwork, art, or anything else “crafty”.
I've been working on a wall of embroidered weeds as I believe weeds are beautiful. The Goldenrod shown above, is done in gold work and cotton floss. The gold work stem is couched down while the leaves are stitched with angled straight stitches with several complimentary shades of sage. The flowers are several shades of gold cotton gloss in Lazy Daisy/chain stitches.
Below is Queen Anne’s Lace, again in gold work and cotton floss. The stem is again couched gold wire. The “fronds” making up the flower head are gold, silver and white cotton floss. The leaves are gold work done in what is called “S” stitches, making them look a bit more airy. I wished I had used a darker background for this project.
This is a close up of the flower head. You can see the different types of gold wire used, all couched down, as well as the silver and white. The flower has French knots in two shades of white and a mixture of grey and white, with occasional lazy daisy, as well as gold chips and a few gold beads stitched down. The variation gives it more realistic look.
Both of these are designed by a Katherine Giuguid.
Another one I'm currently embroidering is not for the weed wall, it's on my Folk Art quilt. It’s wild clover. The leaves are applique and the stems of the flowers closed chain stitch and the flowers lots of close packed lazy daisy stitches. I have an idea on how to make an embroidered clover for the wall of weeds.
There are many places on the Internet where you can find stitch guides. This is one of them.
Of course, I have to do a dandelion, but how to best get the fluffy, poofed part I’m not sure of. I will have to try several methods I think to get what I want.
So that is what I’m up to.
