My Experience Voting Today.

Let me preface this brief story with saying I vote in every election and in Louisiana where I live we have a lot of elections. Even in off years we can have 3 or more elections. Due to this, sometimes an election can fly under the radar and it only really enters my thoughts on election day.

That's what happened this morning. I checked my Facebook and saw there was an election today that somehow I forgotton about. To see what the election was about I went to the Secretary of State website and entered my information to discover I had been removed from the voting rolls due to not voting in years and having mail returned to them as undeliverable by The USPS.

I knew this was all BS as I've voted in every election and work with the USPS so my mail is actually done pretty perfectly. I also have Informed Delivery and never saw anything from our local Registrar or the SOS in my email. So I went to the Registrars Office to find out what happened.

Again they told me the LA SOS Office has the USPS run Change of Address software and my name came up as having moved out of the parish. Given I use this same software at work I told them that was impossible. Then they said it was due to my lack of voting. Again I said impossible as I vote in every election. Then they said it was due to undeliverable returned mail by the USPS. Again I said impossible as I never received anything at my house or in my informed delivery. At that time they said they could find a report which showed my name on the returned mail list. They pulled up the list and behold.....I was not on the list!

I was able to finally vote but as I told the Registrar and the folks at my precinct, if this could happen to me it can happen to anyone. And many people are not as adept as navigating this stuff. Also, to be frank most people are probably not as pigheaded as I am either. Some folks may have just given up. Please check your registration and make sure you can vote. These next elections are just too important to let them steal it through BS like this.
