Russia would rather lose hundreds, even thousands, of troops in an effort to hold onto territory rather than retreat from an untenable position. Novotoretske is at the base of the Dobropillia salient.

Russian forces lost 50+ soldiers in a single assault near Novotoretske, trapped in razor wire and anti-tank obstacles

Two Russian armored columns hit Shakhove and Myrnohrad this week. At least 33 vehicles destroyed.
The goal: widen the Dobropillia salient's base so supply convoys can reach RU troops inside. Right now, UA forces in Shakhove can hit anything in that corridor

Ukraine has once again hit the Russian refinery in Ufa, which is the capital of Bashkortostan.
Add Volgograd to the list of refineries hit.
Local officials say it was only falling debris. 😂

The UK steps up.

The UK has announced its toughest sanctions yet on Russia, targeting Rosneft, Lukoil, Naraya Energy, four Chinese oil terminals, 44 shadow fleet tankers, and suppliers of missile and drone components. The package also cracks down on insurers, ports, and financial firms enabling the trade.

Serbia would be smart to join the EU. There is no future economically for Serbia by hitching its wagon to Russia. But does the EU — after Hungary and Slovakia — need another monkey wrench in the works?
x
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made it clear Serbia cannot join the EU without imposing sanctions on Russia. This comes after the Serbian president reaffirmed that EU membership remains Serbia’s strategic goal and top foreign policy priority.

The Russian attack on the UN humanitarian trucks was deliberate.
Of course, that’s hardly surprising. Russia doesn’t even care about getting caught bragging about it.
The damaged Russian sub Novorossiysk is attracting a lot of attention on its way back to port.
Ah, the old sugar-in-the-fuel-tank trick.
It looks like an Alfred Hitchcock movie.
The Norwegian chairman of the Nobel Peace Prize committee was asked why the award wasn’t given to Trump.
Lukashenko doesn’t meet the criteria either.

Takes guts to sing anti-war songs on the street in St. Petersburg.
He loves Putin so much he has Putin’s face tattooed on his chest.
Or at least he once loved Putin.
Polunin previously worked with the Royal Ballet in London and later as the director of the Sevastopol Opera and Ballet Theater and the acting head of the Sevastopol Academy of Choreography in Russian-occupied Crimea from December 2019 until the summer of 2024.
His dismissal from his roles in Russian-occupied Crimea came after he wrote in his since-deleted Telegram channel that he felt "very sorry for people" living in the heavily targeted village near Kherson, "where a generation of Polunins grew up, and my Russian grandfather built a small house with his own hands."
He urged Putin to end the war against Ukraine, adding that "the worst deal would be better than war."
In late 2024, Polunin announced that he was leaving Russia because his soul was "not in its place." It is unclear where he currently resides.
"My time in Russia ran out a long time ago, it seems at this moment that I have fulfilled my mission here," he wrote in a post on his since-deleted Telegram channel.
It is inevitable that war fatigue is growing.
There was a report a few days ago that Assad spends a lot of his time these days playing video games in his luxury Moscow apartment. He should hope that Putin doesn’t strike a deal with the new Syrian government.

Why?
Because once again, they can’t seem to manufacture and/or acquire the necessary equipment.
