The Oregonian reports that on Sunday, October 12, a clarinet player with the Unpresidented Brass Band, was assaulted and arrested by ICE while the band played at a protest near the Portland ICE facility. Dressed as bananas and playing the theme from Ghostbusters, the band was across the street from the ICE facility when an ICE officer tackled Oriana Korol, after a group of ICE thugs chased down another protestor who ran toward the band. Karol, a 38-year-old child and family therapist, was detained at ICE and then taken to the Clark County Jail in Vancouver, Washington where she is still being held.
The Oregonian also reports that as of 2 p.m. on Tuesday October 14, the federal government had not filed charges against her as she sat in the Clark County jail in Washington. A sheriff’s office representative said she was being held on suspicion of assault on a federal officer.

On Wednesday afternoon Karol appeared at federal court in Portland after spending two nights in the Clark County Jail according to an updated story in The Oregonian. The courtroom was filled with her supporters.
Korol’s mother and father were there. Her father told the newspaper he was able to talk by phone and video with his daughter at the Clark County jail. Her glasses and her clarinet were broken when the federal officers rushed into the band and she was knocked to the ground.
She was charged with interfering with an arrest and was described as “violent” by the federal prosecutor, according to The Oregonian report.
Unpresidented Brass Band founder and trumpet player Miles Thompson, who was also at the hearing, said he didn’t see anything like that. Thompson said one officer did a diving tackle on the protestor who had run toward the band. The officer also knocked over a drummer who had to go to the hospital and get stitches.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Youlee Yim You released Karol pending trial and ordered her to remain away from a designated geographical area around the Portland ICE facility. Korol was released by 3:00 pm and reunited with her partner and friends outside the federal courthouse.
