If an alien from outer space paid a visit to this website, he might conclude that it is a characteristic of the human race to simply give up in the face of historical headwinds, simply fold like cheap red tie worn by an orange blob. Don’t get me wrong: it is going to get really ugly. When the Voting Rights Act is severely weakened next year (or sooner), it is going to get truly insane. And unfortunately, many people on this site seem to be in denial about this; we are putting all our eggs in the electoral basket. The party who wants to make the swastika great again is going to be breaking more norms in the coming months than Trump breaks toilet seats in a week. But we need to never forget a few things before we crawl into bed and stay there.
* There are many more of us than them: That is not just a pithy saying to make one feel better. It fucking means we can leverage enormous reserves of people-power peacefully and change the current equation.
* People who have historically fought for social and economic justice are not by definition pessimists. MLK jr did not mope around and wait for safe political candidates to push Civil Rights forward; folks faced down thugs with guns and nightsticks ( using nothing but their wills and bodies) and leveraged local economic power to change the equation.
* The people we are facing are mostly imbeciles: the moment is fraught with danger, but their ignorance and idiocy presents us with an opportunity, if we are smart…
All power to the people!
