Jason Esteves picks up key endorsement from Jason Carter in governor’s race
Jason Carter (left), grandson of the late President Jimmy Carter, has endorsed Jason Esteves for governor.
About a decade ago, Jason Carter won the Democratic nomination for governor on a promise to expand the party’s base and end its long losing streak in Georgia. Now, the former state senator is backing another former legislator making a similar bet.
Carter endorsed Jason Esteves’ campaign for governor this morning, calling him “the strongest candidate to meet this moment and build the coalition Democrats need to win next year.”

Michigan Democrats plan April 19 endorsement convention
Lansing — Michigan Democrats will hold a convention April 19 in Detroit to endorse nominees for attorney general, secretary of state and the state Supreme Court, party Chairman Curtis Hertel said Wednesday.
The Democrats' state central committee approved the plan, as part of a larger schedule, earlier this month, Hertel said.
The development means both Michigan Republicans and Democrats have chosen to set early endorsement conventions for next year's election, instead of using the traditional timeline of nominating candidates for state offices in late August.

5 takeaways from the Virginia attorney general debate
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares (R) and former state Del. Jay Jones (D) came face-to-face on Thursday at a highly anticipated attorney general’s debate in Richmond amid a stunning scandal that has put renewed interest on the downballot race.
Unlike past state attorney general races, this year’s contest has garnered national attention following leaked violent texts sent by Jones in 2022 about former state House Speaker Todd Gilbert (R).
Jones apologized for the texts after they surfaced earlier this month, but Miyares and Republicans have used the controversy to knock Jones as being unfit to serve as the state’s top law enforcement official. A number of internal polls following the scandal have shown a tightening margin in the already competitive contest.

Zohran Mamdani and Andrew Cuomo clash over policy and handling Trump in a fiery NYC mayoral debate
Andrew Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani both opened Thursday’s New York mayoral debate by saying a future headline about their first year in office would celebrate lowering costs for New Yorkers.
The next 50 minutes of the debate — aired on NBC New York and Telemundo New York, in partnership with Politico — turned into an all-out brawl over issues including crime, the war in Gaza and President Donald Trump as the candidates tore into one another in deeply personal ways.
During one back-and-forth focused on which candidate has the right experience for the job, Mamdani, a state assemblyman, blasted Cuomo, the former governor, for his handling of nursing homes during the Covid pandemic. Cuomo, who resigned from office amid allegations of sexual harassment, which he denies, had just said the mayorship was “no job for on-the-job training.”
