“We believe this issue is a real, real issue for the American people,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York told reporters Wednesday when asked why this shutdown would be different. “We also believe that when there’s a Republican president, a Republican Senate and a Republican House, the natural inclination is to blame the Republicans.”
Mr. Schumer needs rhetorical help. He needs to stop using his inside voice outside. It’s destructive and he undermines his cause, our cause. There is nothing to “believe” here, especially when talking to reporters. There is no “natural inclination” that he needs to discuss with anyone outside of his own party’s walls. That is inside talk.
Outside talk is: “Americans need their healthcare, and the Republicans are robbing them of it and refuse to negotiate and would rather shut down the government than give the people what they need. The Republicans control the Presidency, the Senate, and the House. This shutdown is their responsibility. They own it.” FULL STOP!
