ICYMI, Donald J. Trump is currently in Asia supposedly making trade deals like no one has ever seen, ending wars like no President has ever done, and urging people to buy Toyotas.
Huffington Post collaborated with MeidasTouch to share video clips from Trump’s speech to the crew of the aircraft carrier U.S.S. George Washington in Yokosuka.
Here’s how The NY Times described it:
-
Trump speech: Standing on board a U.S. aircraft carrier, before a crowd of American service members, Mr. Trump vowed to keep using the military to occupy American cities — and went further, saying he was prepared to deploy different active-duty branches as well as National Guard troops. “We can’t have cities that are troubled,” he said.
It appears the Times skipped over a few things. Here’s what Huffington Post had for highlights:
President Donald Trump on Tuesday told U.S. troops in Japan, “I’d love to have your job” ― quite the bold statement considering the president has been called a draft dodger for a claim of foot bone spurs that allowed him to avoid service during the Vietnam War.
But that wasn’t the only memorable quote from the president aboard the USS George Washington in Yokosuka.
He also mused about magnets, encouraged military members to buy Toyotas, claimed unanimous support for the Nobel Peace Prize (sure, everybody but the Norwegian Nobel committee) and rhapsodized about hugging missiles. That was on top of a smattering of election and inflation denial, Joe Biden insults and, on a more ominous note, a threat to summon “more” than the National Guard to U.S. cities he deems dangerous and uncooperative.
Even that doesn’t really convey just how unhinged Trump sounds. The video clips at the HP link show a twisted man living in a toxic fantasy world. If you can’t stand to watch Trump, the clips have a description of what he’s saying — but even they are incomplete in spots. You really need to watch to get the full effect — and hear the reaction from the crew aboard the ship. It’s disturbing on multiple levels.
One of the biggest assets the Trump regime has is the industrial strength sanewashing the mainstream media routinely applies to Trump’s speeches, tweets, etc.
Comparing him to a drunk uncle at a wedding reception is understating how unhinged he sounds (and is) — but “Trump being Trump” is not considered newsworthy. Compare and contrast with the treatment of Biden — or any Democrat for that matter. IOKIYAR vs. IACIYAD.
The media has much to answer for — assuming we survive.
