Alternativ für Deutschland, Alternative for Germany, is a legal party, and is not proscribed as neo-Nazi. The party’s leadership denies being neo-Nazi, but numerous members and functionaries have documented links to far-right and neo-Nazi groups. German Jewish organizations, trade unions, and anti-fascist NGOs have warned that the AfD acts as a “gateway” or “front” for neo-Nazi networks — particularly in eastern states that formed the old Soviet puppet state until 1989 — where their cooperation is overt.
