I do a lot of posting here and in other places. And I follow lots of people with similar view to mine.
Some posts (here and elsewhere) tend to bring out the haters. They bring out people who try to tear things down. People who say things that are not true in order to demoralize others. They tend to repeat messages verbatim from other “hater” posts. They do so in a way that makes me a bit suspicious of whether they are really the progressives they claim to be. Honestly, I don’t really think they are on our side.
It occurred to me that this is a real opportunity to see what kind of messages lead to an avalanche of demoralizing, inaccurate, and suspiciously repetitive comments from the other side.
So I looked and I found something that gave me so much hope. The posts they attack the hardest are posts that say we can win. They are posts that point out weaknesses in Trump. They are posts that show that bullies are weak and bullies often lose and bullies should be laughed at.
Those posts are met with an avalanche of suspicious posts saying that all is lost and we can’t win and we’ve already tipped past what can be saved.
And honestly, this gives me more hope than anything anyone else can ever do. The fact that the thing they fear the most of all is us realizing that they are actually weak and we can actually win.
Well that is the best news I’ve had in a long time.
That means that they need us to give up because they know that if we don’t, we can actually win. We can actually stop them. We can actually restore love and decency and democracy and kindness.
If that wasn’t the case, the wouldn’t work so hard to squash any hope on our side.
They can only win if we give up.
And that is why they are spending so much energy on making sure that we do so.
And if they know how fragile the house of cards they have built is, then we should remember it too.
They can only win if we give up.
Let’s not give up.
