Is DailyKos still a good place for newbies?

I have a friend who has been writing letters to elected officials for years and is getting frustrated that her letters aren’t having any effect.  She doesn’t spend much time on the internet.  Yesterday we talked and she asked what would be a good place for her to post her thoughts — a blog, a podcast, or something else.  DailyKos was the first place I thought of, because it used to be that kind of a place, accepting of newbies, welcoming, and forgiving.  I haven’t spent much time here in a lot of years — is it still that kind of space?  Thanks for any guidance.
