Hello, my delicious dainties, I'm back to lull you to sleep with another slideshow of my photos from my Summer trip to Poland.
I'll get right to it this week as I'm running low on time and this week's events are almost worth a whole diary by themselves. Although, I really should be calling your attention to a little diary by our Michele first.
Have you hopped over and returned?
Then I shall begin.
Dim the lights and let's get the carousel spinning ...
Gdansk
After we visited the Amber Museum, we went back to wander through the streets for a bit before lunch.
That's a Christ you could go out for a beer with. Or not. Maybe not.
Near where we stopped for lunch
And who'd have thought that having a baked potato for lunch was one of those "must do" items on the Gdansk Tourist's Checklist? Well, I had one with the homemade ham salad and it was pretty good. Next time definitely something different though.
The Golden Gate
Highland Gate
So ugly it was worth a photo
The Prison Tower
The Devil's Tooth. And I'm having a devil of a time finding more information on it. According to the legend I'd heard, this hunk of iron was torn out of the Devil's mouth by the locals and hung high on the wall of a building where the local merchants met. If you manage to touch it, it's said that you'll have hellishly good luck for a whole year. It is hung up there pretty high, but ol' Marko gave it a thwack. Supposedly, staring at it intently for five seconds also works.
I think I was probably the only tourist jumping around there that day. Thousands of tourists milling around, I was the only one who seemed even remotely interested in the tooth. I guess it's not on the "must do" list.
Artus Court. The tooth is just barely peeking in from the right edge of the photo.
The Crane Gate
In the shadow of the overhanging crane tower, we watched a bridge rotate to let a ship pass through
What's a Polish landmark without a detailed model cast in bronze?
I did kinda promise you a carousel at the beginning.
The World War II Museum
And while Mrs the Werelynx and our group of friends went into the museum to gaze in wonder at the exhibits that make this place one of the top "must do" items on any list of things to do in Gdansk, I continued on down the banks of the canal toward the docks and shipyards.
But that'll be for next time.
Thanks for stopping by.
