WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said House Republicans should vote to release the files in the Jeffrey Epstein case, a startling reversal after previously fighting the proposal as a growing number of those in his own party supported it.
“We have nothing to hide, and it’s time to move on from this Democrat Hoax perpetrated by Radical Left Lunatics in order to deflect from the Great Success of the Republican Party,” Trump wrote on social media late Sunday after landing at Joint Base Andrews following a weekend in Florida. ✂️
The president’s shift is an implicit acknowledgement that supporters of the measure have enough votes to pass it the House, although it has an unclear future in the Senate.
It is a rare example of Trump backtracking because of opposition within the GOP. In his return to office and in his second term as president, Trump has largely consolidated power in the Republican Party.
“I DON’T CARE!” Trump wrote in his social media post. “All I do care about is that Republicans get BACK ON POINT.”
This is a huge sign of the felon’s power waning.
He needs to appear like a winner. If he tells the GOP to do something and they don’t, then he looks like a loser.
But this time, he has to follow what they want, and not lead them.
Of course, we still need Senate approval. And the felon’s signature.
We also need to get the DOJ to actually release the files, and this DOJ is highly unreliable.
But there are checks on the gaps and lies and redactions:
- 100s of FBI agents who reviewed the files.
- There is Maurene Comey and her team. Maurene Comey was the prosecutor on the case
- There are the survivors, who are speaking out more and more
- There is the Epstein estate, which may have copies of some of this
The vote is on Tuesday. I wonder how many it will get? I wonder if, with this “permission” from the felon, how many will cross?
So I’m including a poll on it, so we can all make educated or stab-in-the-dark guesses.
But I think his name is all over it. And I don’t think people will forget how much he stonewalled to prevent them coming out.
