Chuck Schumer may be up to his old tricks again. There is suddenly a lot of chatter about a Senate deal. It is the same thing as always, the senators who are going to retire or don’t care are doing the negotiation and might give the Republicans their margin. The potential deal is the worst one possible — end the shut down for a promised vote later (Hah!). Not even a promise it will pass. Josh Marshall though makes a really good case that they would not do this without the caucus’ approval, including Schumer. We are left with “what are you going to do?” because it is some of our faves up to re-election this year. It is beyond cowardly. This has happened for multiple cycles. The only response if this happens is to primary every senator up for re-election no matter how much we like them. Most challengers probably won’t win but in this atmosphere who knows. People are going to be really angry. Some of those up for re-election are really great senators, but this will never stop until we start voting against the organization rather than voting for the individual. Let the senators betraying us know they are also betraying their friends and colleagues as well. We have had enough of electoral three card Monty.
