The Trump Regime has disappeared another person, this time in the reverse direction. This is a man who was in federal prison, and no longer is, and no one knows where he is or how he came to be released.
Remember the story that President Biden was paid $5 million by Burisma as bribe to kill investigation of it? Republicans ran with it. Jim Jordan declared it “really the heart of this matter.” He described it as “the most corroborating evidence we have.” Comer threatened contempt proceedings against FBI Director Wray if he didn’t release the document where FBI agents memorialized Smirnov’s claim now known to be lie. Chuck Grassley openly leaked the document touting it as proof of “Biden family influence peddling.” Upon reading it, Representative Anna Paulina declared Biden “100% guilty” of bribery. In what should now be viewed a reflection of her own credibility, Marjorie Taylor Green declared the now indicted for lying witness as “extremely credible.”
The source of the story was a supposed FBI informant named Alexander Smirnov, and it was a lie. What's more it was a disinformation campaign Smirnov executed on behalf of his true handlers in Russia. The Republicans were eager dupes to the Russian fabricated lie. For more on this, feel free to read the three articles I wrote about it at the time.

Smirnov was indicted for these lies, pled guilty, and sentenced to six years in prison that he started just this January. By March the Trump Regime signaled it was "investigating" the conviction and filed in court that it intended to ask the judge to order Smirnov release pending the investigation. However, the Regime never got around to actually asking and the judge never issued the order.
What is clear, now, is that months ago, no one knows when, Smirnov was released, no one knows how or under what authority, and his whereabout are unknown. He has likely fled the country. During his trial a judge denied pretrial bail on grounds Smirnov, with all his international connections (including Russia and Israel) was a flight risk.
The only reason Smirnov's release has been finally revealed is a process server tried to serve a civil lawsuit against him and discovered he was not at the prison to serve.
Speculation is that his release is preliminary to Trump pardoning him. Back in March the Trump Regime claimed his prosecution was suspect, and if pardoned you can expect to hear that again.
If you do hear that, know this. The prosecutor in Smirnov's case was David Weiss, the same Special Counsel who brought charges against Hunter Biden for tax evasion and illegally owning a gun. He was appointed by Trump to be the United States Attorney for Delaware and tasked by Trump Attorney General Barr to investigate the Bidens.
