Some Remaining Special Elections in 2025

There are a few special elections for state legislatures that are taking place within the next couple of weeks.   I am hopeful that each of them continues with the trend of a clear shift toward the Democrats.

December 16th  Election,   Kentucky Senate District 37:  Clemens (D) vs. Leach (R)

The previous person in this seat, David Yates, a Democrat, vacated the position earlier this year.  You can monitor the returns here.  

Last Election:  2024.  Result: D + 20 

December 23rd Election,  South Carolina House District 88:  Hightower (D) vs. Lastinger (R) 

This is a heavily Republican district. The previous person in this seat,  R. J. May resigned his seat in August before pleading guilty to several counts of distributing child pornography. May will be sentenced to federal prison in January.

Last Election: 2024.  Result: R + 40 

December 30th Election,  Iowa Senate District 16:  Hardman (D) vs.  Loftin (R)

The last incumbent, Democrat Claire Celsi, passed away  in October.
