Here’s Maisie. Took her for her first vet visit on Monday. They say she’s not 3 yet, more like 14 months. She probably has some Golden Retriever in her. And that she’s a healthy pup.
I mentioned that she has separation anxiety (this is the second dog I’ve had with this condition) and that I’m working with a trainer on it. We’re also working on getting her to use my small back yard when she has to go. No progress with that at all, but for the separation anxiety, she’s becoming more comfortable with being her crate (I feed and give her chews there) and I’m working on adding the number of minutes I am out of the house. The goal is to gradually increase the time AND to. be able to leave her in the crate while I’m gone. Right now, that idea seems impossible to me! But the good news is that unlike my other dog who had separation anxiety, she has no other anxieties. She’s a very calm animal.
For now, I’m using pet sitters so I can go to my yoga classes and do other things. Expensive but necessary. I have a lot of anxiety about adopting a dog at my age.
Did any of you watch Maddow’s special with Tim Snyder Friday night? It was spectacular. I purchasesd his book On Tyranny several months ago on Kindle and haven’t read it yet but after seeing this special I’m going to buy the hardcover.
Yale history professor and authoritarianism expert Timothy Snyder on Tuesday highlighted what he believes is a key weakness in Democratic opposition to President Donald Trump — but also pointed to signs of hope.
Speaking with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Snyder noted there are “too few Democrats who are articulate in describing the world as it actually is unfolding before our eyes.”

However, Snyder then emphasized the strength of “creative local” grassroots opposition across the country. “Probably more than we see, because, unfortunately, we don’t have enough local reporters to cover it properly,” he said. www.msn.com/...
Snyder predicted that in coming months grassroots activism and emboldened political people will join forces as creative protests provide a background for leaders to step forward. According to Snyder, “ acts of resistance—and resistance must be a group project, according to Timothy Snyder, historian and author of the currently bestselling On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century. Among the lessons from his book: Do not obey in advance. Defend institutions. Be calm when the unthinkable arrives.” www.commonwealmagazine.org/...
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share a virtual kitchen table with other readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by to talk about music, your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper…. Newcomers may notice that many who post in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table and hope to make some new friends as well.
