I received a phone call from the DCCC the other day, and the very nice woman on the phone starts to go into the script about how Democrats are fighting for health care, people’s retirements,...blah, blah, blah. It was the “kitchen table” issues that House Democratic leadership wants to discuss with me while hitting me up for $100. You see they are running this triple match right now, so my donation will really go far!
I let her take a pause, then I laughed bitterly.
I started by letting the DCCC woman know that I am a U.S. Census Bureau worker who has only had 1-2 days of work per week in the last several years. I explained that this all started when Republicans took over the House, and I believe there really has been no proper budget or appropriations (upper management mentioned budget issues last year with our agency). And if this wasn’t enough, I let her know that I’m one of those workers that Elon Musk wants to fire.
In other words, I have no real money to give to the Democrats at this time.
I barely gave her time to pause when I performed a jiu jitsu move that MANY PEOPLE pull on me when I interact with them on the phone for the Census Bureau. In other words, I hijacked the call to vent about my agenda and views about the Democrats in D.C. Americans I talk with on the phone regularly do this to me, and I have been on the receiving end of how they feel about the Census Bureau and government in general.
Now, I was polite but very firm. Here are the points I stressed about what the phone call should be about:
- Elon Musk and Donald Trump are acting illegally and unconstitutionally while seizing the Treasury Department and other government agencies.
- Trump and the Republicans want to CUT my elderly Mom’s Social Security and Medicare to pay for TRILLIONS IN TAX CUTS! This is a direct threat to both myself and my Mom’s SURVIVAL!
- Because of the above, I HAVE BECOME RADICALIZED! I stressed this several times. My view, and it is extreme, is if Musk and Trump win and get me fired and take away my Mom’s Social Security and Medicare, I DO NOT WANT THE DEMOCRATS TO HELP THE REPUBLICANS OUT ON RAISING THE DEBT CEILING! IN FACT, SEEING AS THIS IS ALL A DIRECT THREAT ON MY LIFE, I DON’T CARE IF THE FULL FAITH AND CREDIT OF THE UNITED STATES IS DAMAGED!
- The DEBT CEILING IS THE ONLY LEVERAGE THAT DEMOCRATS HAVE AGAINST TRUMP AND MUSK!
- And while I said that I had an “open mind” on Hakeem Jeffries, I said that I am done with Nancy Pelosi and the old guard who do not take this constitutional crisis seriously and beat down the likes of AOC.
- I frothed at the mouth about Schumer in the U.S. Senate. I called him several types of names, and I used him as a great example of WHAT I DO NOT WANT TO SEE OUT OF DEMOCRATS! NO MORE PRESS CONFERENCES THEN NOTHING!
- I said Democrats need to get out to where the people are getting their misinformation on social media and other outlets in order to get their message out! I stated that the DCCC needs to reach out to its biggest donors and tell them to get behind YouTubers like Brian Tyler Cohen and others!
- Finally, I bitched about the fact that Democrats ONLY WANT MONEY FROM ME! They never ask me to even call my rep or senators. They never urge me to take to the streets or make any other sacrifice to protect our democracy. And I am sick of this.
Now, she was a brave person to remain on the phone while I spoke with my booming voice (Yes, my volume control is either off or loud), and while she did try to weddle me down to 50 dollars, I told here is what I would do. I did give her $25 for the midterms, and I told her it was really because she stayed on the phone with me much longer than she had expected and put up with my diatribe.
I’m betting she was relieved to get off the damn phone with me.
But I urged her to tell her boss’s at the DCCC what I said, and she assured me that the phone call was recorded and someone would listen to it. (No, I have no illusions about that). If anyone really does listen to the recording, it’s going to be some flunky with zero power or influence.
Will any of that do any good? Probably not. They did get some money out of me just the same, but it was the first human being I got on the goddamn phone. I cannot tell you how many text messages I receive asking me for money, money, and more damn money.
Save my life and my Mom’s, and I will be glad to give the Democrats money. In the meantime, I have given what I will for now. The only other thing I can do is drag my ass down to Senator Mitch McConnell’s office and tell one of his useless staffers what I think about Musk’s thievery of my personal data. Sometimes showing up is half the damn battle.
