Disclaimer: I practice and train for self defense only. I do not condone nor advocate for offensive violence for any reason. I fully support non-violent protests, especially of the economic boycott kind.
Black Women At the Range!
One of the rules of responsible gun ownership is to practice and train often. I go to the range at least twice a month including ongoing training with firearms instructors periodically. The last few times I went to the range I have seen several black women with instructors. One black woman stopped to chat with me, she was nervous, it was her first time learning to use a hand gun. I listened to her, encouraged her and then told her, “I’m with you.” I know quite a few black women are already well versed gun owners and probably much more knowledgeable with firearms then I am, but the ladies I’m bumping into are very new and with instructors/husbands/boyfriends teaching them the basics.
You don’t usually strike up conversations at the range but I make sure to give a very warm smile and a cheerful “good morning” to these ladies.
Welcome aboard the 92%, our black sisters, happy to have you and look for that warm smile and thumbs up if you’re new, there’s more of us then people realize.
Delusions
A couple of diaries are floating around cussing each other out about arming up and who’s more deluded.
All I’m going to say is; none of us will be able to stand up the military. That is ridiculous. It’s equally ridiculous to think that complete passive non violent protests are going to be the answer.
Premeditatio Malorum
What we can do is prepare for local vigilantes by building strong defensive strategies. Strategy meaning we are NOT running around like an old wild west shoot ‘em up movie. Rather strategies which include not being an easy target. There are plenty of different roles to be filled, but some of the community will need to be armed, some will leverage other skill sets.
I’m fully supporting the Economic Black out today and other forms of peaceful protest but….
It’s a sad fact we have to be prepared to defend ourselves, in many different ways.
One more disclaimer: I’m not a gun expert, for me they’ve consisted mostly of Dad’s rifles sitting in my closet for years. After some very threatening incidents with my family at the hands of angry white men -and- police shrugging their shoulders when called, we decided as a family to start educating ourselves. So I won’t be able to answer any really gun-techie questions. I encourage more knowledge firearm owners here to write stories and tag it with liberalgunowners.
