Two days ago I wrote about Marko Elez, the 25-year-old Elon Musk lackey with direct access to Treasury Department systems responsible for nearly all payments made by the US government. Two of WIRED’s three sources claimed that Elez’s access privileges allowed him to not just read the systems code but also write code for the systems — which could have predictably devastating consequences.
Well, breaking news is that Elez has just resigned from DOGE (I’m not sure how you resign from an unofficial group, but whatever) after the Wall Street Journal reported on racist posts from a deleted X account that WSJ reporter Katherine Long linked to Elez. Among the profoundly racist and puke-inducing posts from Elez’s account:
- He advocated for repealing the Civil Rights Act.
- He backed a “eugenic immigration policy” in the weeks before President Trump was inaugurated.
- Last September he stated that “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity.”
- He said that we should “Normalize Indian hate,” in reference to a post about the prevalence of people from India in the Silicon Valley. In a December 2024 post, Elez promised that Indian workers in the U.S. on H1Bs visas are “going back don’t worry guys.”
- In July he posted: “‘Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool.”
- In reference to Israel’s war against Hamas. Elez wrote: “I would not mind at all if Gaza and Israel were both wiped off the face of the Earth.”
Yup, he’s a real prince.
I’ll note that in the agreement that the DOJ reached with the courts just a few hours ago to restrict Musk's and DOGE's access to Treasury data, Elez was listed as one of just two DOGE Muskovites granted read-only access to the data on an “as needed” basis. So Elez’s downfall seems to have come rather quickly.
It is, of course, completely not a surprise that one of Musk’s DOGEbros is racist, and it’s a bit ironic that his downfall was sending out racist posts when the key feature of Trump 2.0 so far has been racism. Still, I’m glad to see him go. One down!
