Ok, I am more awake now. Many of you know me as a Shelterbox fundraiser, a grandmother of a CF child, a science educator, an entomologist, African explorer, a short Mexican American in Texas.
But also, for 10 years, I was a card carrying member of the Progressive Conservative Party in Alberta. Probably would NOT be now if I was there. But at that time, Ralph Klein was premier of Alberta. Our university was one of only three at the time in the province. The other two where in Edmonton and Calgary. Edmonton was the seat of government and power. Calgary was the seat of oil and gas money and alot of cattle and grain money. Soooo that is what you HAVE to work with to help your university and your students. He called Bill “his bug guy”. He was very sweet to me. His wife was Métis. That was about the time we had dinner with Bob Rae. Joyce Fairbairn was a very dear friend of ours. We almost made it to the Tar Sands, thank goodness we didn’t.
