As of February 7, 2025, the U.S. House of Representatives comprises 218 Republicans and 215 Democrats, with two vacancies.
The two vacant seats are Florida's 1st and 6th Congressional Districts, both previously held by Republicans (Gaetz and new NSA Waltz). Special elections for these districts are scheduled for April 1, 2025.
Additionally, a vacancy is anticipated in New York's 21st Congressional District, currently held by Republican Elise Stefanik, who is expected to resign upon confirmation as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. The date for this special election has not yet been determined.
If Democrats win all three of these special elections, the House would have 218 Democrats and 217 Republicans, giving Democrats a one-seat majority.
Do I have this right? Because if I do it’s all hands on deck time. The Daily fucking Kos’ slogan is, “News you can do something about.” Well, here’s news you can do something about. Assuming I’m right. Am I right?
