Vote this pile of sh*t spending bill down!
I'm going to give Senate Democrats the benefit of the doubt here. You were hoping that the House Republicans would kill this thing for you. You played your cards close to your vest and used … whatever the hell your messaging strategy was in hopes the Republicans would implode. Well, you bet wrong. Who could possibly have seen that coming? It’s not like the administration has won Every Single F*cking contentious batsh*t insane vote so far.
Your messaging strategy should have been simple. We want to keep the government open. Send us a clean resolution and we’ll vote for it. Or at least come to the table like every president has had to do with every spending bill since before all the fascism. You should have made this clear from the beginning. Now you’re going to take some of the blame for this shutdown.
Make no mistake. This bill is a disaster for Democrats both practically and politically. It basically codifies the administration’s ability to ignore spending allocations and do whatever they want. It doesn’t actually matter if the budget allocates 100 trillion dollars for something if the government doesn’t need to actually spend it. There’s an odious provision that makes it harder to vote down Turnip’s ridiculous tariffs. It even punches several groups that Republicans hate in the face including the entire city of Washington DC.
Worst of all, it does exactly what Trump wants, clearing the deck so they can get their horrible reconciliation bill through. It’s also really long for a stopgap CR. I know that the Democratic Party spends millions upon millions of dollar on consultants, and supercomputers, and time-travelling-consulting-supercomputers, but I’m going to give you this heuristic for free: Good for Trump = BAD FOR YOU.
I’ve read countless articles about how powerless congressional Dems are. Well, now you actually have the power to do something here. You only have “no cards” if you play like you have no cards. You have the better hand here. You want an actual clean 2 page CR, not the “cleanest of clean” 99 page CR that Johnson is boasting about. You want to force the admin to obey the constitution. You know — that little booklet you swore to defend.
Maybe you’re afraid that Diaper Don will use you as a foil to distract from the other disastrous things he’s doing. Like I said, you have the better hand here if you can get your sh*t together. A shutdown hurts them more than it hurts the good guys.
Or maybe you want to protect your 21% approval rating while Congressional Republicans enjoy their highest ever approval. You certainly wouldn’t want to lose the approval of the 5% of Democrats who currently approve of Congress.
This vote needs to be 47-0.
