We Ds are looking for leadership, and some governors may be stepping up.
Meidas Touch just interviewed Governor Andy Beshear.
Beshear is the governor of Kentucky, yet he is a Democrat.
He won in 2023 with 53% while tRump beat Harris by 26% (which was lower than how much he beat Clinton).
Ben Meiselas asked him why. Now, Governor Beshear did not state a good portion of the obvious: he’s a white, Christian dude, and his opponent didn’t have the world’s richest oligarchs on his side. Also, his dad was governor before him and so his family is well known and well liked.
But what he did say made sense: how to reach people, even as D in a red state.
Below the fold is the interview. And, then, if you’re like so many and just want to read the cliff notes, I’ve got those as well.
*
Here are the cliff notes:
Beshear talks about how terrible the tRump decisions are for Kentucky:
- Tariffs will be for Kentucky — those currently scheduled to go into effect April 2 — those will hurt Kentucky bourbon sales and their aerospace industry
- Tariffs will also raise the prices of things like food and lumber and cars
- The cuts to Medicaid threaten 70% of seniors in long-term care
- The cuts to Medicaid threaten the health care of 50% of kids in Kentucky
- The cuts to Medicaid threaten all the rural hospitals, which means a drive of two hours or more when someone needs to go to a hospital
- People who work for the government are losing their jobs, and that’s hard on families
Beshear talks about how he has been able, as a Democrat, to reach the people of Kentucky:
- Focuses on core issues: health care, transportation, education, jobs
- Uses words people understand: instead of phrases such as “food insecurity,” talks about “hunger”
- He shares his WHY. Why, as a governor in a red state, did he veto a cruel bill targeting the LGBT community? Because it went against his faith
But it’s important, after you veto a bill like that, to go out and help open a factory, or to do something to make commutes work better, or to be there during natural disasters.
Is he the next leader? I don’t know. He’s in the race, I’m sure, or he wouldn’t be talking to Meidas Touch.
And I liked how he said he didn’t want to give up on this country.
I know many here are dispirited. Not happy with the Ds. But there are good people out there.
Tell me what you think of him.
