In the video below, Nicolle Wallace asks Susan Rice, former Ambassador to the UN and National Security Advisor for Barack Obama, her reaction to Trump & Vance’s disgraceful verbal/emotional abuse of Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Yes, it was a set-up, she answers, and an attempt to humiliate Zelenskyy which he did not go along with because he has dignity, he has decency and he democratically represents his people. But the Oval Office disgrace was also Trump & Vance’s expression of “fealty” to Vladimir Putin.
Nicolle Wallace asks “Why?” And Rice goes there. “[Trump’s] end game is to undermine the security and stability of the United States… all to the benefit of our adversaries.” She lists off examples. I confess I have been baffled by some of Trump’s more bizarre moves, such as blowing up the USA’s relationship with Canada — now I see how they all tie together. They’re all about weakening the USA diplomatically, military and economically. I didn’t previously see the national-security advantage of USAID: to prevent extremism by easing hardship abroad.
Interesting point she makes, as I didn’t know this: European countries have provided billions more in military aid to Ukraine than the USA has. “They are going to have to continue to carry the load,” Rice says, in conclusion, “while the United States casts its lot with Vladimir Putin.”
Update 01: In response to points made in the comments, maybe it isn’t treason by the letter of the law, but it is by the spirit, in my book.
Update 02: For those who want to donate directly to Ukraine: in the comments, Ridgeline provided the link to "The initiative of the President of Ukraine, official fundraising platform of Ukraine" u24.gov.ua .
Update 03: Various commenters speculate on, or quote pundits speculating on, Trump’s motivations, sometimes coming up with complex scenarios. My thoughts: 1) Toss out anything complex. The guy doesn’t have the brain power to have complex motivations. 2) He has narcissistic personality disorder. (Not just an off-the-cuff diagnosis; see The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump.) These people’s motivations are simple: they desperately need attention and admiration, to have others consider them special, or God-like in extreme cases. Thus they can easily be manipulated by others who understand this, especially when the NPD is accompanied by low IQ. As well, people with NPD are innately destructive of others; it’s part of the disease. I don’t think it’s any more complicated than that.
