The only person, so far, who has told off Trump to his face, in person, is Gov. Janet Mills from Maine. First covered earlier this month in How is "I'll see you in court!" going for Gov. Janet Mills?
At the White House governor's conference, Trump picked her out to demand that she ban trans in women sports in Maine. There was a back and forth until she said, "I'll see you in court!"
Then Trump said she would comply because any federal funding for education would be cut off, and then a smarmy remark that she wouldn't last long in politics. Nothing more was heard about the kerfuffle until now.
The University of Maine System said yesterday that they would comply with Trump's executive order and with the change in NCAA rules.
Dannel Malloy, the system's chancellor said in a statement, "We are relieved to put the Department's Title IX compliance review behind us so the land-grant University of Maine and our statewide partners can continue to leverage USDA and other essential federal funds to strengthen and grow our natural resource economy and dependent rural communities through world class education, research and extension."
They capitulated rather than lose the $30 million they received last year. The court case Gov. Mills promised never happened.
But that wasn't enough for Trump. He had to pile on the shame.
Maine has already complied with his demands, but they didn't apologize for Gov. Mills retort. Trump is only dreaming. He takes his win as an apology from the state.
"... we have not heard from the governor herself, and she is the one that matters in such cases."
What cases? Have a number of other governors flipped you off? Governor Gavin Newsom gave up the ghost on March 6th on trans in women's sports. Last year he was standing up for them. No longer.
Governor Tim Walz and his daughter have so far weathered the controversy, but there is a bill going through the legislature that will make Minnesota compliant with Trump's executive order.
I don't think I've ever heard something so imperial coming out of a president's mouth. "Therefore, we need a full-throated apology from the governor herself..." It's not enough that he wins, and many have called him as bad as a winner as he is as a loser. But he also has to humiliate people now that he can.
"... and a statement that she will never make such an unlawful challenge the federal government again, before this case is settled."
Maine has complied, but that isn't enough to restore federal funds until she personally says she'll never again cross your edicts. The man is pettiness personified.
"I'm sure she will be able to that quite easily."
I don't think so. She would rather spit in your face, than give you the satisfaction. I hope she completely ignores his demand and this whole episode makes the biggest news possible.
"Thank you for your attention to this matter..."
Almost no one was paying attention to it until you brought it up. Just who is he thanking? I think he's doing another third person talking to himself.
Three exclamation points and then he signs off with DJT. He doesn't use his initials that often. The three explanation points all the time.
This is Donald creating another battle of wills. Legally, Trump has nothing stand on. Maine has already complied. But, legality is not in Trump's repertoire. He thinks he can use his position to demand anything.
Trump only posted this 3 hours ago, so Governor Mills has not had any time to react to it. She wouldn't be looking at Trump's Truth Social account like many of us do. She will know about it when she checks the daily news, because mainstream media is already covering it.
I hope she totally ignores him. If she does respond, she can just say she is complying with federal law, and that's the end of it.
Except, Donald wants her to say she will never ignore his edicts again. She could word things to make it sound like she is promising without promising.
I'd rather she tells him to take a flying leap through a rolling donut.
