Republicans are beating the same drum again about the horror of unelected judges and how they are destroying democracy. Judge Boasberg has recently become the enemy of the people because he disagrees with the President (who has a difficult time differentiating his own opinion from the people’s opinions).
The President thinks he can deport any non-citizen with no over-site or due process if he or some low level ICE agent believes that they are dangerous or terrorists or evil.
When Republicans get a judicial decision that they do not like, suddenly they all complain about unelected judges as if they are in a chorus singing from the same song sheet.
They say Democrats are weaponizing the court system with unelected judges who are going against the will of the people. It is sabotage. It is theft. It is evil. It insults the President. They claim judges are more powerful than the President, and that these judges are corruptly usurping the power of legislators.
I have a simple solution. Let’s fire the 245 federal judges appointed by the President in his first term. The first group fired should be the unelected judges the President appointed to the Supreme Court.
After all, they are all illegitimate according to Republicans.
Such evil cannot be allowed to continue and getting rid “unelected” right wing judges on the Supreme Court is a perfect way to show how much they dislike these judges based on the illegitimate process by which they came to power. It would show they are serious about their criticisms of the judiciary.
And while they are at it, they need to explain how voters would be willing to vote for literally hundreds of judges in the thirteen US courts of appeals. The federal judiciary is enormous.
If Republicans are so interested in voters choosing them, why haven't they proposed a way for voters to elect them? Voters would face an election ballot with thousands of choices which would be the true democracy they claim to want.
Of course, they know this method of choosing judges is totally unworkable. But that does not stop their eternal complaining about bogus threats to democracy from the federal judiciary.
The sad thing about all this is that the mainstream press could put an end to all this nonsense by asking right wing politicians how they propose to elect hundreds and thousands of judges to the federal bench. There would likely be an embarrassed silence in the room followed by a desperate effort to change the subject.
But that would be asking the press to think creatively, which is probably too much to expect.
However, just consider how great it would be to never have to hear Republicans preaching about unelected judges again.
