GOP Congress Member Brandon Gill– He “Knows” More About the Law Than Chief Justice Roberts March 21, 2025
So far, the U.S. federal courts have been the only branch of our government not bending and bowing before Demagogue/Dictator wannabe Donald. Of course, Donald is furious that the judiciary is blocking many of the Trump-Musk draconian anti-democracy policies. When U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, and an appointee of GOP President “W” Bush, temporarily blocked deportation flights to El Salvador over the weekend of March 15-16, 2025, Trump defied this decision and sent the planes with the deportees to El Salvador. Judge Boasberg was skeptical that the Trump administration’s use of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act applied in peacetime. He stated that it had only been used in wartime. On March 18, 2025, as Newsweek reported, Donald posted on his Truth Social account that Justice Boasberg should be impeached. In a rare rebuke of a sitting president, conservative Chief Justice (CJ) John Roberts, also appointed by “W” Bush, stated that impeachment or removal was not the way forward and that there were well-established processes in place to appeal a decision. Many GOP members of Trump’s “cult of personality” could care less what CJ Roberts knows about the law. One of those Trump cultist disciples, Congress Member Brandon Gill, filed articles of impeachment against Judge Boasberg. On X, formerly Twitter, non-lawyer Rep. Gil stated that Judge Boasberg must be impeached because, “He is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors and should be removed from office.” Just who is this Cong. Gil?
First-term GOP Congress Member Brandon Gene Gill (31) currently represents the Texas 26th Congressional District (CD). The newly redistricted TX 26th, includes the northern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Denton County makes up 90% of the Lone Star State 26th. The Lone Star 26th’s major cities are Flower Mound and Lewisville. The 26th is full of new, young, well-educated, and middle class families. Even with this growth, the 26th, according to the Cohen & Cook 2024 Political Almanac, still has more horse ranches than any other county in the U.S.The TX 26th was best known as the seat of former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, the hard-right Congress Member who backed up Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) in the 1990’s in his budget-cutting battles against President Clinton. After the latest redistricting, the 26th gained Cooke County and two-thirds of Wise County. In those two counties, Donald won more than 80% of the vote. The Democratic-leaning city of Denton with its universities was removed from the 26th. Since 1984, according to Wikipedia, no Democrat has won more than 40% of the votes here. All but one county officeholder is Republican, and the 26th CD is considered a “safe Red seat.” The latest Cook Partisan Voting Index (PVI) gives the 26th a comfortable R+13 score. Trump clobbered Biden in the 26th by an 18.52% margin, 58.54%-40.02%.
Brandon Gill was born on a U.S. Air Force base. His father served in the U.S. Air Force. Brandon Gill grew up on a cattle ranch in Eula, TX. He received his BA cum laude from Dartmouth College where he majored in history and economics. While at Dartmouth, Gil headed the strongly conservative student newspaper, “The Dartmouth Review.” After graduation, Gill worked in finance as an investment banker.
In 2018, Gill founded the news website “D.C. Enquirer”. He stated that he was “going to bat for President Trump” in the public square. He also marketed his father-in-law Dinesh D’Souza’s 2022 film, “2000 Mules.” That political film claimed the 2020 presidential election had been stolen from Trump. D’Souza is a right wing commentator and conspiracy theorist. In 2014, he pleaded guilty to making an illegal campaign contribution. He was sentenced to eight months incarceration in a halfway house, five years probation, and a $30,000 fine. In 2018, during his first term, Trump pardoned him.
In 2024, Gill ran for the TX 26th CD seat, from which conservative Tea Party Caucus GOP Rep. Michael Burgess was retiring. Gill received Trump’s endorsement as well as that of TX Republican firebrand GOP Senator Ted Cruz. Gil won his primary with over 50% of the vote, avoiding a run off. In the general election, he also easily beat his Democratic opponent by a 26.4% margin.
GOPer Gill stated that “fortifying the U.S.-Mexico border” would be his principal policy objective. He called for mass deportations and shared along with Trump the claim that migrants were eating household pets, according to MSNBC. He supports Trump’s wacko proposal to redevelop the Gaza Strip into a resort area, and claimed, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that Donald was bringing peace to the Middle East. In March, 2025, Gill submitted a bill to put Trump’s face on the $100 note once his second term ends, according to Newsweek. Gill is the youngest sitting House Republican. He is a proud member of the new House Department of Government Efficiency Committee chaired by ultra-extremist Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). Bet on this House DOGE committee to aid the Trump/Musk DOGE commission in any way it can. Gill also hopes to join the far out House Freedom Caucus.
When asked about what high crimes and misdemeanors Judge Boasberg had committed, Cong. Gill said he couldn’t name any, according to “The Daily Beast.” Cong. Gill thought, however, that the judge could not strike down an executive order, but judges have every right to do that.
Cong. Gill’s filing of an impeachment motion would first have to go to the House Judiciary Committee for review. It may die in that committee. Even if this ridiculous motion gets passed by the majority of the GOP House, it would certainly fail to get the two-thirds votes necessary in the U.S. Senate to convict and remove Judge Boasberg from office. However, the GOP will be wasting frivolous time on such a procedure, rather than truly governing, its basic aim. Still, such impeachment threats could create a “chilling effect” on federal judges every time they rule against the GOP and its Trump-Musk leadership on any crucial matter. The judiciary MUST continue to stand its ground against the Trump/Musk threats to destroy our democracy.
