The Aber family have revealed that Jessica Aber suffered from epilepsy and had had epileptic seizures over the years. It now appears that she died of an epileptic seizure. It is a plausible explanation for the death of a young and seemingly healthy woman.
The investigation continues, I intend to post another update in a few weeks.
Cause and manner of death are not publicly known yet, an investigation is underway. Jessica Aber, a relatively young woman as far as senior officials go at the Department of Justice, was the U. S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, she started on August 10, 2021, after she was appointed by President Joe Biden (D, 2021 — 2025) and confirmed by the Senate.
And she continued in that position until… January 20 of this year. Phil Helsel, Ken Dilanian and David Rohde report for NBC News that
Aber was found dead in Alexandria on Saturday [March 22] morning, police said. She was 43.
Police discovered Aber's body while responding to a report of an unresponsive woman around 9:20 a.m., the Alexandria Police Department said in a statement.
[...]
Aber had been an assistant U.S. attorney for the district since 2009 and was deputy chief of the criminal division before being named U.S. attorney, her department biography says.
The NBC News reporters explain that “U.S. attorneys are political appointees and can be removed at the will of the president.” Currently, Donald Trump holds the title of president and is availing himself to many of the privileges of the office.
Trump occasionally tells the truth on Truth Social, so when he tweeted that he intended to fire all U. S. attorneys from President Biden’s presidency, Aber believed him. She chose to step down rather than be fired.
Aber’s last post on Twitter was three days before the effective date of her resignation.
When Aber first came aboard as U. S. attorney, Peter Dujardin reported for the Daily Press that Aber had promised to fight for justice and to restore community trust in the U. S. attorney’s office. Neither of those goals would have sat well with Trump once again having the title of president.
Current U. S. Attorney General Pam Bondi issued an appropriately somber though brief statement. The district’s current U. S. Attorney Erik S. Siebert issued a somewhat longer and much more heartfelt statement.
We are heartbroken beyond words to learn of the passing of our friend and former colleague, U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber. She was unmatched as a leader, mentor, and prosecutor, and she is simply irreplaceable as a human being. We remain in awe of how much she accomplished in her all too brief time in this world. Her professionalism, grace, and legal acumen set the standard. Though we are devastated by this loss, each of us in the Eastern District of Virginia will look to her example and endeavor to live up to that standard. Jess was a proud Virginian from high school through college and throughout her career. She loved EDVA and EDVA loved her back. We remain committed to her life’s work, a commitment to seeking justice, as she would have wanted.
This news of a former U. S. attorney’s death will probably get buried under the news that Trump has revoked security clearances for President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris (D, 2021 — 2025) and other political rivals.
I reiterate that the cause and manner of death are not known yet. But you’re right to be suspicious.
