This will be short. I’m not a temperamental kind of guy. Used to be. Learned better. But I am fucking furious right now. And I am sad to say congressional Democrats are the target.
If Donald Trump had a brain, he would call himself a king just for laughs to own the libs instead of calling himself a king because he actually thinks he is. Tuesday he will be speaking to a joint session of Congress.
How do we deal with authoritarians, fascists? We surely don’t do it by enabling this shameless liar, felon, rapist, purveyor of frauds, reneger of deals, breaker of contracts, deadbeat, grifter, and all-round crook who it is now absolutely crystal clear is a Russian asset. Whether he got to be so willingly or was just flattered and funded into the role is of no consequence. This is the guy who speaks to all of Congress Tuesday.
This is the guy who demanded not mutual respect with President Zelenskyy but the one-way respect that a movie gangster godfather asks, with an ”or else” attached. Trump, of course, despises the very idea of standing up for democracy, soldiers being suckers and generals being dumbasses in his view. And then there was the no-doubt planted question about the lack of a suit by Zelenskyy. It’s his uniform, you pig-ignorant poltroons. Trump’s characterization of the war was the most Orwellian fucking stunt he’s pulled so far. Why not just say Zelenskyy invaded Ukraine?
We all want peace. We just don’t want a peace dictated by Putin or his puppet. President Trump promised he could end the war in one day. That hasn’t happened. How curious is it that Trump and his deputy JD Vance haven’t chosen to scold Vlad the Invader the way they did Zelenskyy? After all, Trump could end the war in one day: Just tell Putin to stop the glide-bombs, stop the missiles, stop the shooting, withdraw all the Russian troops along with the North Koreans, and send the 19,000 kidnapped Ukrainian children home. Voilà! War over.
But that’s not happening. Instead, this would-be gangster who occupies the White House is intent on smashing everything, globally and at home. You don’t beat fascists by enabling them, by showing them respect and paying attention to their rants. You don’t win this kind of fight with decorum. Fascists are bullies, they don’t deserve salutes of any kind.
Tuesday I want to see Senate and House Democrats do one of two things. Don’t show up or show up and walk out en masse once he steps up to the mike. Or show up and talk over him and shout at him the way he did Zelenskyy and the way that Republican voters at Townhalls across the country are talking to their representatives. They are giving them an earful. And they’re not all being polite about it. Hallelujah!
Democrats in Congress should pay attention to that. Make some noise. These guys are serious about dismantling and wrecking and crushing dissent. But, to tell the truth, I doubt many Democrats will do that. Be silent now, then don’t come begging next election, hey?
