In a 5-4 vote, SCOTUS upheld the Constitutional mandate that Congress has the ‘Power of the Purse’ and that the executive branch has no right to halt Congressionally approved spending. Trump is going to have to restore already approved of foreign aid.
The US Supreme Court on Wednesday sided against the Trump Administration and upheld a lower court's decision to force the release of nearly $2 billion in foreign aid funds.
John Roberts and Amy Comey Barrett joined the 3 left leaning SCOTUS justices in upholding the Constitutional separation of powers. Not surprisingly, Justice Alito threw a hissy fit in his dissenting opinion.
"The Government has represented that it would probably be unable to recover much of the money after it is paid because it would be quickly spent by the recipients or disbursed to third parties," Alito wrote.
Yes, Justice Alito, that’s the nature of aid. It gets spent. That’s in addition to the fact that this idiotic complaint doesn’t address the Constitutional issues halting the aid presented.
A win for the good guys, but this should have been a 9-0 vote. I’m hoping Roberts is finally beginning to understand the monster his court has unleashed, but it’s going to take more than one decision to convince me.
Here’s more.
